- MarthaSays trying to find first and last name (ex's last name) related to fraud and if not contacted will file charges with local county court. My ex's name has never been associated with my current number or address, yet they have called my number and my current husband's number trying to get a return call. No email, no letter and no other information. Last time this name was used was 10 years ago... They make it sound really scary because of the threat of legal consequences.

- DeeMy ex-husband (in Maryland) just received a call from this number regarding our 28 year old son who has lived in another state for the past 5 years stating they are looking for our son who has had a complaint filed against him and will proceed with legal action... first thing I assumed was scam, but I can only find number here with other very recent similar entries... very weird, i think it has to be a scam. Our son hasn't been associated with my ex particularly since he was 14 or so....

- BigA replies to Dee| 3 repliesKnown debt scammers. Crooks pretending to be debt collectors. This applies to you, your ex, and you should pass it on to your son as well.
Debt Collection Links:
They call family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money.
This is a common ploy by criminals masquerading as debt collectors who are attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, be sued, and a variety of other variations on this, all for an alleged or nonexistent debt. One of the tricks they use is to call your work place, friends, or relatives repeatedly in an attempt to shame you into paying. They also use the “process server” ruse who calls and claims he is going to serve you, but then says you could avoid it by calling another number
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

I got the same call today, 06/02/2016. I got the calls a couple months ago, then they stopped after tax time around April 15, and now started again!
- Brenda replies to DeeI am getting the same calls. Scammers! Very annoying and rude. They also said they were "Western." I said Western what, and they said Western. Asked what I wanted, said they called me. They are idiots!

- Cindy| 1 replyThey call everyone I know asking for my whereabouts. Finally when I called then back they wanted me to verify my last four digits of ss# that they had. Of course I didn't because that kind of information should never be given out. Then I asked them for their business license but he said he can't give that information out. Yet wants me to give him my personal info. Doesn't make sense. I told him to send me any paperwork to my home to have it all in writing. These people are scammers. Don't fall for it.

- Christina replies to CindyHi Cindy, my mom received same phone call yesterday asking for me via a voicemail message. I freaked out at first and looked it up online. I'm glad to see these responses on here and know it's a scam. Shame on these people to do this and exploit them for money. I know not to call them!!
- BigA replies to Brenda| 1 replyNot true. i have found the CFPB and my State Ag very responsive. What you don't understand is that this isn't a real company. So it takes a while to figure who they are and where they are located. This group might possibly be located in the Caribbean as well which makes it even more difficult since now you have to deal with foreign governments. It may take months just to get enough subpoenas to track these people down.
