I got a suspicious warning while on facebook that locked up my browser and said for support to call this number.

You will find your 'support' company is in Asia. NEVER call a number from a popup ad.

Visited a video link on Facebook to a video on VINE.  When I got to VINE I got a popup telling me VINE wanted access to my Friend's List, My Location etc.  They typical Facebook Permission request.  I canceled and go a new page popped up claiming that Microsoft found suspicious activity on my computer and they wanted me to click YES to a link.  I hit the small x trying to get out, a new popup said to call Microsoft's Security Team at the above number, tried to close windows, wouldn't let me.  Finally had to use the old CTRL-ALT-DEL keys, press ONLY ! time, bring up the Task Manager and close out my Chrome Browser to regain control.  A few months ago I kept getting phone calls from someone with an Asian accent claiming they were from Microsoft and wanted to sell me some sort of Security Plan.  That resulted in a number of heated verbal exchanges over the phone, since they wouldn't take NO for an answer.  Like the rest I'm sure this is a scam simply an attempt to steal your money.

I accidentally downloaded some malware that attacked both my browsers. For two days I was getting phony ads as sidebars, tab hijacks to known virus locations, activation of sound effects blaring that I had to call someone to pay to remove the virus. (yea right - screw you 855-205-4909)

When I had a chance to look at the PUPs,  I found Tasks Scheduled, Installed programs, and automatic replication programs. They hijacked a ad service and installed a virus. They even went so far to monitor the downloads folder so that I couldn't install a new version of Google and IE! Deleted this nasty stuff.

I took care of all that even when Microsoft Defender didn't find a thing. I'm thinking they disabled that too, so will check next before hooking up to the internet on that computer. Then, this same hoax number called me at my home phone but, hung up before I could say anything. I'm blocking now.

Not a pleasant experience and I've been using computers for a long time.

i just got this and they are telling me the same thing. and to RUN (www.startcontrol.com) ON my computer...
how do you stop this? im sure allot of ppl feel for it. I just turn my computer off and re start and the problem was gone. they are telling me that it will happen every time i get on line.. im sure that will happen when i do what they tell me to do...good thing that i did not do what they say..

Do not call this number, a pop up froze my explorer screen and an error message was on my screen with this number for tech support. I was a sucker and called an Asian male answered trying to get me to go to a online remote access website and allow him to access my computer. Could have been bad.

I was on facebook and got a pop up ad telling me that I had a virus.  The Asian person that I spoke with tried to sell me a anti-virus protection.  I told him no and hung up.  These people need to stop trying to steal from a senior citizen.  

Shut down your computer NOW and contact a qualified bricks-and-mortar IT specialist for assistance. Ransomware has been installed on your computer and the longer you run it, the more damage it will do.

Had pop-ups promising quick malware removal -- couldn't get it off until I called and then the guy said he was with Microsoft.  I knew I had had a virus that was quarantined but pops up periodically.  He wanted $249 to clean it all without bothering to give me his Microsoft credentials, etc.

My mom got a pop up on her computer today.  She said she could not get rid of it, no matter what she tried.  She called the number on it, believing it was Norton (that's what the pop up said).  The guy on the phone said he could get rid of the virus for 199.00.  She let him into her computer remotely, but then told him she was going to call me.  I told her to unplug her router and shut her computer off.  Luckily she didn't get them any information, doesn't save passwords into her computer or anything else.  I told her to take it immediately to her computer guy.  Bad people - do not trust them!

I too got this pop up and stupid me did not know what to do so guess what they got me for $200.00 reported it to credit card co. they are trying to get money back then went and installed Norton security hope they did not get anything from me.  Mine was also when on Facebook, I am going to call local police also to report.
