- Sherry| 1 replyI didn't receive a call but members of my family did, my brother, sister, sister-in-law and my sister-in-law's parents. They all received calls and voice messages from a woman at Legal Support Services. The number on their caller IDs said 484-222-5628, but the number that was left in the voice messages was 855-232-4987. They said that I had legal documents being sent to me on Monday between the hours of noon and 4pm and that I needed to be there to receive them and provide 2 forms of identification. They left a case # which had the last 4 digits of SSN at the end.
How are people allowed to do this?- Caller: Legal Support Services

- Alfalfa replies to BettyThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:
•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors - anny replies to SherryThey aren't allowed. They use a fake cid number and give you another number to call them back. That way their hope is to scare the beejeebees out of you and make you an offer for a settlement. It is scare tactics to extort money out of you to keep from "going to court". Their methods are not legal. Tell your family to tell them to Kiss off.

- Penny V.I just was contacted today about a payday loan issued through JHS Marketing. I applied March 2013 through Money Mutual but was told by the person I spoke to that I was declined. That was the end of it until today. Today Oct 24 2014 I was called and harassed by someone named Anthony working for Empire Management Services (1-855-232-4987) that if I did not pay them $730 today (for a $300 loan plus fees) they were serving me with papers and be sending me to court and I will need a lawyer and have to pay $3100. He was very rude and threatening. I immediately called my bank to check if I ever had a deposit in May 2013 for $300 and was told no, there has was no deposit by any company for $300 the entire year of 2013. When I informed Anthony that I never received any money from JHS Marketing he became angry and said well you either pay or go to court. This is a scam and I am being falsely accused. There are lots of complaints on BBB.org against JHS Marketing that they have been doing this same thing to lots of people. It is unfair and wrong.

- BuckI called the 855-232-4987 number. The President/CEO is Andrew Lawson. Address provided was a PO Box. (Yea right) PO Box 115, Buffalo, NY 14223 The person I spoke to had no information on the number I was originally called from in NC. My unconsolidated opinion: Scam - Just a group of nasty people.
- m replies to keith MitchellLegal papers being served would be a subpoena. You are not required to show two forms of id when being served. They just think for some dumb reason that including the two forms of id in their message makes them sound more official. Chances are they are a debt collection company using illegal tactics to collect on debt that is fraudulent or past the statute of limitations. Tell them you are reporting them to your state attorney general.

- Tara| 1 replyReceived a call today from Justin Chambers from 951-213-4793 from Legal Support Services saying i was going to get served on Nov 24th from 12-4 pm and needed to be there with two forms of identification otherwise they were going to serve me at work. This Justin Chambers gave me this number 855-232-4987 to call if i needed to reschedule getting served my papers and also gave me a court case number 44368-**** . I called the number to find out what this was about and they state it was from an old payday loan. They are saying they are suing me for $1,900.00 in late fees plus $500.00 in Court Fees. So i looked up in my email and i have proof of paying off the loan from the vendor : Oakwood Financial. When I called the number back and told them that, they said well after I served paperwork i would have to take that email to court to prove I've paid the loan. They also called my Brother's cell and my home number which is unlisted. I don't know how they got those numbers which frightens me a little. I will post after the 24th to tell you if I truly got served anything.
