Follow-up to my previous post:  This number is Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) trying to convince people to sign up for "Demand Conservation" a program whereby for a slight monetary credit against your electric bill during the summer months, they install a device on your central air conditioner(s) that they can remotely control to shut them off for select 15-minute periods during peak energy demand days (read hot, humid days) to ease the demand on their system.  Unfortunately this can often hit you when you need your cooling the most, when the unit is stressed just to keep your house comfortable.  If your unit is marginally sized it will not be able to recover from the "off" period and your comfort level will suffer.

Most home units are intentionally undersized by HVAC contractors to provide better humidity control performance on average days and already under-perform on really hot, humid days.  Not worth the small savings in my opinion.

BTW I recently retired as an electrical engineer with BEE and MEng degrees, and a PE license in KY.  Among my duties over the years was power system design and HVAC system design.
