    Called looking for my husband.  Allegedly he owes a debt for magazines.  I informed them they are sorely mistaken as he has not ordered any magazine contract since 1994.  She immediately began yelling at me and then called me "Honey" in a real smartypants tone.  I told her if she is truly working for an law firm #1 she is behaving most unprofessionally, and two she knows this is not the proper procedure to collect a debt via a telephone law suit.  She hung up.  My husband phoned these people back and informed them he owes no magazine debt nor does he owe any debt at this point in time.  He listened to some gal go on and on for a bit then he informed her she needs to send the paperwork properly through the USPS Mail Service and he would look through the paperwork thoroughly.  She informed him it is "past that point, but I can email the information to you.  I'll just need your email address."  I wouldn't give him my email addy so that was a mute point as he does not have one.  Besides that that tactic isn't legal anyway.  These are scammers plain and simple.  I don't care they say they are a law firm or the fact their law firm is listed on the internet as it is listed as a scam office.  I am not going to lose any sleep over this alleged law suit.  Oh I nearly forgot to mention this debt is allegedly from 2002 and we allegedly paid on the bill up to 2007 then she said til 2008 knowing full well the statute of limitations ran out in 2007.  WA State has a 6 year limit on filing a civil suit against a party.  This is a scam, plain and simple.  Do not give these people any personal information whatsoever.

    That is so stupid for them to suggest law suit over a magazine subscription debt,  even if it did exist.
    These scammers will try any angle any more...   good work..

    I got a similar call tonight. They referred to me by a last name that I have not used in nearly thirty years. I was unable to answer the phone the person that left a message sounded like man but and the name of a woman. Then i had my daughter look up the law firm Miller Davidson People. The firm didn't come up. She looked up the number and this site popped up.

    Christine Johnson and Ms. Ashmore both called me regarding a debt from 2005.  I told them I did not owe and money and I read about their firm, "Miller, Davis and Peoples" online.  She asked me to promptly settle my debt.  She is going to email me some paperwork that I can look into.  I am still waiting.  She asked me to go back to their website and post that she, Christine Johnson, tried to help me from being sued and leave a nice comment so people know the truth.  She also told me she has a proof of delivery of EVERY magazine I have ever ordered through the company they were respresenting.  Again, I am still waiting.  She said the debt has not been sent to my credit report (even though it's apparently been 7 years.)  She also did not have the monetary value of my debt.  She had my address and last four of my SSN which is concerning but I will not be sending them any money.  I am sure it's a scam.  I am posting this in hopes someone else will read this and not be scammed.  Can someone that has written about this prior say if anything else ever happened?  Were there any follow-ups or other issues that came about?  Thanks!

    A message was left on my answering machine from Christina Johnson from Miller, Davison-People law firm stating there was a civil case (she gave a case #) and to return her call at 855-268-4195 ext 315.  I have no
    idea what this is about nor do I intend to return the call.  I have never received any paperwork regarding any type of civil action against me and certainly don't expect to.  My daughter is an assistant county prosecutor and she just laughed when she heard the message.  Her comment was "legal actions aren't handled telephonically," it's just another scam....I have since looked the law firm up and it looks totally bogus to me.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    Same thing here. They used my maiden name (which I haven't used in 14 years) and said there is a pending civil suit against me. I don't have any outstanding debt. They can mail me something if they want to, but I'm not going to call them back!!!  Thanks to everyone who posted before me, we need to put an end to these people scaring us into thinking we owe someone money!

    I received a call from Natasha from this same "law firm" this morning. I googled the number and came across this. I called back and it was the same story. Wanting to collect a debt from a magazine subscription from 2007 at an address I lived at prior to 2007. She said she was offering me a settlement of $300 on the $2000 I owed otherwise she would have to issue a summons. I just told her I would wait for the summons and I'm sure my lawyer would help me sort it out. She seemed uncertain of how to respond to that and just said ok that you for returning my call.

    Yep, just got the same message on my home answering machine.  Figured it was phoney BS but checked it out and linked to here.  DO  NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE INFORMATION!  Just hang up.  If you really want to mess with their minds tell them you'll be happy to respond to any mailed correspondence after you have your friend/husband/father/son/etc in the FBI/Postal Inspectors take a long hard look at it.  Play the game back at them.

    Caller was "Kate Beckwith" (no doubt an alias).

    Extension is 320

    Same as all of you.
    Told me I owed $398 for magazines to a company called National Services Corp but I was being sued for almost $2,000 due to late fees and filing. Said I could make arrangements with them and only pay the $398 and everything would be resolved. I asked her for the account number I supposedly had with this company but was told she couldn’t give it to me over the phone. I actually made a mistake when I was 24 back in 2002 and ordered magazines but it wasn’t this company & I have all the proof that it was paid off & my account was closed. When I told her this she told me to call her back at 855-268-4195 ext 340 and we could go over the documents together. So the first thing I did was run the law firm through Google and this was the first thing that popped up. For all the bad publicity the internet gets sometimes places like this that protect people from getting screwed represent a bright spot here and there.

    Thanks All
