- KimA guy named Lawrence Bartoszek has been telling me that his company bought my account from someone and that I owe him $3008.58. The catch is that I have been paying my finance company $51 every month for over a year on this account, so how could I be in collections? He said it happens alot when when the interest amount is more than the monthly payment. That makes sense to me, but I didn't have the $2,000 to give him that he said he was willing to settle on. That was two weeks ago and today he offered me to pay as close to $900 as I could and he would write the rest off. I finally got a hold of my finance company and they said my account is in good standing with them and that they don't sell off bad accounts anyways. She told me they had to be scam artists. I am so lucky that I found this out at 3:15 because he is supposed to call me back at 4:30 and I was going to give him a credit card with all of my info.

- Reno PatouI hope that the supposed "finance company" in your case, Kim, wasn't actually a debt relief agreement, or a debt management program of some sort you have entered into with another company. They will indeed tell you that all is well, as long as it is "them" that you are sending your money to. These enities have nothing to do with the terms of the financing unless they have an agreement with the owner of the contract.
BANKS ALWAYS SELL BAD DEBT!!! Don't mistake paying money to somebody, somewhere - as being in good standing with whom is really owed. DEBT MANAGEMENT/RELIEF DOES NOT MEAN that your ACTUAL CREDITORS ARE BEING PAID!!! ACTUAL being the key word here, so... Who owns the loan??? Do your own due diligence, pull your credit record, telephone the original creditor to see what the status is with them (collections, paid, sold etc.). - Another One!This company just called my parents looking for me with a "very important business matter" (havent' lived there for over 15 years). Called the lady back (said it was Delta Collections or something like that) and gave her an earful for harassing my parents, not calling me at all, and not giving me any information on what the call was about without "verifying" my birth date and my SSN. How do companies like this get away with it?
