I had a call from a Mark Davis, said he was with SCM and Associates.  Claimed I had a loan that is outstanding, but this is not a loan I ever made.  He had my SS#, and my DOB, but address, email address, and other contacts were wrong.  I have attempted to get further information regarding this matter from them without success.  worried this is a scam of some form.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

To file complaints on Extortion Scam Operations, File reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,CFB,FTC & FCC..

My boss took a message today from "Sasha" with Global Processing Services - I returned the call to 972.893.9982 and she actually answered to inform me that I had a non court mandated summons to be served upon me, but they didn't want to do it at my work.  Even though she divulged what should have been "private information" to my employer.

I asked for what the summons was for, she did not have that information and instructed me to call SCM & Associates at 855.305.7895.  Before calling - I did a google search on both phone numbers...  BEWARE - MAJOR SCAM ALERT...!!!

These people called me twice today, once at my job, and again on my mobile. Stating that I have legal documents waiting to be served at my place of employment, 972-372-0283 claiming to be global process servers. They had me talk to someone name Phil ,855-305-7895. He said that I needed to come up with a form of payment like a debit card or a reloadable prepaid card, in order to avoid further legal procedure. I've done my research thoroughly, and these scumbags need to get a legal way of making money, instead of trying to cheat people. It's a SCAM!!! Don't give in, no matter how real the threat sounds.

Get a copy of your credit report. it will have the administrator of the account listed. You can get the number and talk to them about it.

Scammers like these look for people like YOU to prey on. People who KNOW they have an outstanding loan, and are more inclined to be bullied into paying. However, they likely do not have any authority over your overdue loan.

PAYDAY LOANS WILL NOT APPEAR ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT BECAUSE THEY ARE NO CREDIT CHECK LOANS. THAT IS WHY THE INTEREST RATES ON THESE TYPES OF LOANS ARE TYPICALLY 198-225%

I received a call from this company at work in regards to an outstanding loan that I DO have. They had all of my information and the guy was very pushy about taking a payment today and getting my credit/debit card. Because of this I was leery about giving anything so I asked for a contact number to call them back after I got off of work. He began to talk over me and yell and became more pushy than before. I eventually hung up on him and decided to contact the loan company directly about my loan. This is where I was informed that my loan was in collections but, IT WAS NOT with SCM. They were able to provide the correct information I needed and advised that the call from SCM WAS A SCAM! DO NOT GIVE INFORMATION TO THIS COMPANY FOR THIS REASON!

CONTACT THE COMPANY THAT THE LOAN IS ACTUALLY THROUGH AND THEY CAN GIVE YOU THE CORRECT COLLECTION AGENCY INFORMATION--TRUST IT WON'T BE SCM!

Payday loan activity generally does not show up on the credit reports you get from the three major national credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union). However there are specialty credit reporting agencies that collect some of your payday loan history. It is possible that lenders may access this information when considering you for future loans.

In addition, if you don’t pay your loan back and your lender sells your payday loan debt to a debt collector, it is possible the debt collector would report this debt to one of the major national credit bureaus. Debts in collection could impact your credit score.

Likewise, some payday lenders bring lawsuits to collect unpaid payday loans. If you lose a court case related to your payday loan, this fact could appear on your credit report and may affect your credit score.
