- P| 3 repliesI had a message from them. It was cut off but then a lady came on and said that an agent was waiting to serve me at my place of employment and my job. I called the number left on the message and a lady said "AFS" and I hung up. They called me at work a couple weeks ago. I was in a meeting so they left a voice mail on my phone, my manager's phone, and the main phone with a claim or case number. I called back and they tried to act all nice and were joking and laughing with me. They wouldn't tell me anything, only that all the information is in the court papers. When I said I need something in writing they said they tried to send mail to me (lies). I was trying to look things up while I had the lady on the phone. Of course, the only way to stop it from going to court was to pay $590 (she claims it was an old payday loan from PACK management, who I said meant nothing to me and she went on about parent companies and blah blah, you signed the contract BS.) I actually got her to email me a validation of debt letter (which was titled Validation of Debit Letter) but it didn't tell me much, but it had my old address on it where I haven't lived in over 6 years. I told her I couldn't pay anything so eventually the conversation just petered out. I got in touch with the Dept. of Justice with my state and someone called the phone number I provided. He then told me they wouldn't tell him what AFS stood for, they are not licensed debt collectors in my state, and they hung up on him. I didn't hear from them anymore until today. I sent them a nasty email back which I probably shouldn't have done. It just causes so much anxiety and stress even if they are fake. I get migraine headaches and it's hard enough for me to get out of bed every morning, much less deal with this crap. Sorry for the long message, just wanted to relay my experience and how I dealt with it. Hoping it can help someone else!
- lisa replies to PYes, I had that happen to me several years ago. Called me on my cell and I was at work and had me all scared saying I owed for a payday loan and needed to advance $350 through Walmart or I could be arrested etc and so forth. Well my sister works for Law Enforcement and later told me had I called her she would have told me that most likely it was a scam and the police told me that as long as I owe someone money I could NOT go to jaoi. People these days are just cruel and have nothing else better to do.
- lisaScam call about beinf served some papers and coming to my job or home
- Caller: Emily Roberts
- SaraAgain, got this same call last week but was left a different number. This time the caller was emily roberts. Im still waiting to be served. Ha ha. Its a scam, do not fall for their fear tactics. It took me all day to do research on this company. They first stated themselves as Legal Locator Service Unit, but when you call the number it is called AFS. I do not owe anything. So they can keep calling. Just tell them they are being recorded. And your lawyer will deal with them. They are on BBB scam tracker doing the same thing to many people. From what I read, you dont get warned about being served. Scammers preying on hard working people, scum.

I know I need to ignore these bottom feeders, it's just so disconcerting to be sitting here at work minding my own business, making an HONEST living, and these people think it's okay to call me and disrupt my life with these threats. For goodness sake, I'm already taking two high blood pressure meds!

- Seriously?Wife just got a call from Emily Roberts stating we owe from a payday loan from 8 years ago but wouldn't say from where. Threatened to come to her work or send someone to the house. I called them back with the case number they provided, and advised them if they show up at my house, they would be met by a man in uniform with a gun, that's me. They then hung up on me. - Awake in SLOLoud female caller left message on my mother's phone regarding a "Carol Longist" who may have had my mother's residence phone number prior to nine years ago. Message was about some legal matter where the message recipient is supposed to call (855) 334-8629. My mother has been harassed by these scam collectors for at least two years now. The only time the messages stopped for a few months was when I was able to use some clues from 800 Notes to identify the collection firm and emailed them to "cease and desist" this harassment. The scam collectors continue to develop new messages and now typically block the number they are calling from.

beware of any calls from afs legal - a brian called from 304-212-7104 and called my cell phone and place of employment. He stated he was from afs legal department. He claimed to be an investigator and claimed he was calling for a statement. I only returned his phone call because he called last week and i had left a voicemail message for him to never call me again and especially not at work. These scammers from afs legal have hundreds of numbers. Each person working for them has a different number they call from. Same scam though. Basically they are trying to collect on defaulted online payday loans. They claim that you are going to be in legal trouble for fraudulent check writing. When i told this brian that i was getting ready to file bankruptcy he tried to make me think that this was a legal matter for bad check writing. He refused to give an address for his company. Then he went on to say that i was a loser for not paying my bills etc he tried say he was doing me a favor by warning me and trying to get me to pay so i would not go to jail. Beware people. You cannot go to jail for owing money. 95% of these online payday loans are not even licenesed to do business. You will not to go jail if you finally are unable to keep up with the payroll deductions they keep taking from your pay. It is also not fraudulent bad check writing if a debit does not clear. These people need to be stopped. I knew better but they also call disabled, elderly people, and people that just scare easily. All i can say is brian made the wrong girl mad today. Good luck brian, you are in for it now!
