- Shammy| 1 replyThey left a message asking about someone named Jessica Chavez -- did I know the whereabouts of this person. They also said there would be follow-up paperwork filed with the county court. The voice sounded distorted, like a bad recording. I have no idea who this person is, but I received the same message 2 days ago from a different number, 855-353-4946, so I know this is a scam.
- ReneeBad recording asking if I know the whereabouts of a relative that died some years ago, stating that they are following up on a complaint, and ask me to hit any button to leave message for county court. Obviously a scam.
- Caller: Said they are with "Court System"
- Misty WaltonSaid they had a formal complaint against my husband I called back and the person hung up on me and said they wouldn't tell me who they were so I will just blow it off
- Call type: Debt collector
- PhilSame as the last one.
- AndreaThey call and leave a voice mail for someone I don't even know and say they are filing a formal complaint about them and that they need to find this person or they will file papers at the local courts. Sounds like it may be someone trying to get personal information or money from you. Definitely a scam.
- Anita| 1 replyCalling in regards to a formal complaint. Voice was distorted like that had some machine overlay. Obvious a scam.

- Mrs Sally| 2 repliesYes I got a phone call from that number this evening they were saying they were debt collectors trying to collect a debt and if I didn't pay they were going to sue me I think it's a scam police need to look into this
- Call type: Debt collector
- CWG40 replies to Mrs Sally| 1 replyJust because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around. - DestineyI got q call well rather my mom did on her phone giving my name stating there was a formal complaint against me an trying to tell me that they have. - M.Similar to other posts on this site. Garbled message says looking for " the whereabouts of Donald Hughes" and the caller will be "filing the necessary paperwork in a few days." I will not call them back. I have no debts and I don't know anyone named Donald Hughes.
- Mike replies to CWG40^ THIS, people. Seriously. I'm seriously in awe at how many people whip out their credit cards with no proof, no recollection of the debt and not even verifying who's calling them. Always ALWAYS ask for proof and especially ask for it to be mailed to the address that they have on file. Otherwise, they can go to h***.
