- CWG40 replies to WillScam call. If a civil lawsuit was pending against you, you'd have heard about it by letter from the attorney for the other party. You'd have a paper trail. You would NOT have first heard about a civil lawsuit from some scammery scummery debt collector who cold calls you and starts demanding money and threatening you. And whoe refuses to properly ID themseles or name the origin of the debt they are supposed to be collecting.
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them. Tell 'em no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking). the only thing they understand. - Isabel FonsecaGot a couple of calls from this number and they also called my son, sister, my sister's mother in law. They even called my work. They left a message but, no name of business what it is regarding just that there is a civil lawsuit against me that is it. I know they are scammers. Have dealt with this before. They are not taking any money from me.
- Shannon WattsThus company keep calling sounds like the voice is disguised ...a male voice but then they hang up when you ask questions.

- Call type: Debt collector
- ErnestineCalled husband phone left message for me and was not given permission to call his number.

- WaiCalled my inlaws and left message that they are trying to reach me regarding a court case. Freaked my mother inlaw out. Went online because I've been informed by a authority figure if you don't recognize a number don't answer it and pull it up online. So I did and saw this post. When I called the number left using a pay phone, Automator service referred the call to the next available agent which was another answering machine. So at this point, I've been advised this is a scam. I've asked my inlaws to block the number and if they call again, don't pick up. If anyone does find out who these people are please report them. Agree with CWG40...I've also been advised of the same process by legal council. It helps to have a few lawyers in your circle of friends.
- Nel SarminA call left a message about a formal complain. I called the number. It is from CFS.I do not recognize this company.
- Caller: CFS
- ShammyLeft a message about looking for someone named Jessica Chavez. If I knew where this person was, I was to call them back. Also something about filing the necessary paperwork with the county. They didn't say which county. I never answer calls from unfamiliar numbers. This is a scam of some kind. The voice on the message was disguised and sounded like a poor recording.
- Tmac| 1 replyWho is this company
- Caller: Cfs
- Shammy replies to TmacThey don't say who they are or where they're calling from, just some unnamed county. I also got the same message from a different phone number, 855-338-4138, 2 days ago, so I know it's some kind of scam.
