- MCH| 15 repliesSCAM! My husband and I were victims of identity theft due to a Gold's Gym membership years ago. Every now and then we get scammy calls from numbers like this. Scary thing is that they have our SSNs and info. Police refuse to take ID theft seriously because it's not a 'violent' crime. But it has certainly caused us one headache after another. This place claims to be UBS Processing. They leave a message stating they have some deliveries / important papers to serve to you. You call back - some thug-sounding person says, Hello? Then a couple of black ladies put you on hold and pass you back and forth, consistently refusing to reveal the company name or address. They hang up on you if you keep asking questions. Finally, one of them muttered UBS Processing. It doesn't exist. Then when I asked for the address, some guy mutters, 'Fairfax, VA.' I ask for the street address and he hangs up. I call back and again ask for the name and address. This time I'm told they don't work for me and don't have to tell me. Indeed. Then I call back again - yeah, it was a slow afternoon at work and I was having fun hassling them like they hassle innocent people. Anyway, this time some guy answers, 'Wayne Phillips'. I ask the name and address of the company. He tells me - P.O. Box 362
Marietta, GA 33036
A quick google reveals that's not the zip code of Marietta. When I say that, he hangs up. Come on, Wayne, play along!
I'm filing a police report tomorrow morning. I told them that, too, and they said to go ahead and hung up. Indeed I will. I also called Verizon (my wireless is from Verizon). They said they've had loads of complaints about the number but they need a subpoena or police request to release the carrier name. Hopefully, I can get my local PD to take this seriously and find out who these scammers are and trace back where they got our info. And someone will at last be held to account for the original ID theft.
Barring that, I'll be happy to make these losers sweat a bit. Payback. As the great Khan observed, 'Revenge is a dish best served cold.'- Caller: UBS Processing
- BigA replies to MCH| 5 repliesThe proper place to report these criminals is:
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php - MCH replies to BigAThanks for the info! Verizon's fraud department gave me a number for the FTC as well - 1-877-382-4357. My local police dept took a statement over the phone today and I'm going in tomorrow morning to sign it. Hopefully, they will be able to subpoena the carrier info for the number. Then we will be cooking with gas. :-)
- Raven replies to MCH| 1 replyOmg this same number called me a few weeks ago threatening to take me to court for an unpaid pay day loan from they said 6 years ago. Which I never had a pay day loan every time I asked the name of the pay day company they said the didn't know. But they had my social and last 4 digits of my bank account. They said they were filing a law suit for the money if I didn't pay
I told them that was fine I'd see them in court. But then I got a call from the same number today which I didn't answer. - JCM replies to MCH| 1 replyOmg... I received a phone call yesterday about some important documents. So I called back to see what it was about, and some ghetto chick told me I was being served some papers for a payday loan in 2009, so she had me all types of confused. She told me all my information SSN, where I live, where I work in all.
- JCM replies to JCMShe told me the amount was for 3,600 and she would cut me a deal and bring it down 390.....so then she said if can't pay it taxes is coming up you should have some money.... The nerve of these people this have to stop!!!!
- MCHJust an update. I had some fun with these clowns this afternoon. Put my phone on auto dial and called them for about 2 hours straight. I was trying to goad them into using other numbers because.... the more numbers I collect for this group, the more ways to track them down. Happily, the idiots obliged me. So two more numbers to add to the mix -
855-367-0247
410-630-4615
I had some additional fun with the 410 number. Once again, 'Wayne Phillips' answered (the same Wayne from 855-366-1169). This time he claimed the company is called 'Hunderman, Bradford, and Shepherd'. Not so clear on that first name, - Wayne likes to yell and mumble. Typical threatening BS. Aggressive, insulting, trying to intimidate. What an awful way to earn a living. Wayne and I engaged in a cheerful back-and-forth for a bit. After all, when else in life do you get to swap vicious insults with a stranger? I felt dirty about the whole thing, but then I thought about all the people they're trying to scam and - even worse - the people who fell for their scam.
These sort of scammers change their numbers regularly so I'm hoping the extra numbers help track their actual physical location. As I wrote earlier, I'll be at the police dept first thing tomorrow. I'll post whatever info they are able to provide. I'll also be auto dialing them when I have the time. Why not? I encourage everyone else to do the same. It was funny - about halfway through my auto dialing extravaganza this afternoon, one of the ladies snapped and started screaming that I was harassing them and it was illegal and who do I think I am, etc. Now she knows how her victims feel.
It's crazy that they've somehow collected so much personal info about all of us. That's why it's important we find these people. I encourage everyone to check their credit reports and put fraud alerts on them. And if you decide to give Wayne a call, have fun! :-) - MASKeeps calling, leaves message about important documents. It's a scam! I do not answer. Hope they get caught!

- Deira Barksdale| 1 replyI keep getting calls from this number and when i talk to someone they bring a address fro 11 years ago and claim they cant send me anything in the mail or by email. its annoying because they are calling my job.
- Caller: they wont give a name
- AnnoyedI received the same scam caller named Jeff. I refuse to respond to their threatening tactics. Go back to your own country and SCAM your family and friends!
- Call type: Debt collector
- Tired of it"Jeff" left a message for a person that doesn't live here about a "package" that needs to be delivered. " Jeff" left same message about 2 weeks ago. Sounded a little annoyed that no one has gotten back to him.
- informed consumer| 1 replyThese people call periodically. The same person calls with what sounds like a robo auto dial person. Then it goes into a truly automated message to call back so "papers" can be delivered to the address on file. First off, if they were legit they would send me docs via a server. Screw these people. They are not legit. They do have some of my info, but nothing of a payday loan even shows up on my credit report. The only one i've ever had I paid off and it shows that on my credit report. You should use Credit Karma and look at your credit report. Dispute anything that looks fishy to you and report it. These people are losers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Credit_Karma - Annoyed| 1 replyI keep getting harassing calls at my house, personal cell, work, work cell, and even my parents’ house. I was told that it was related to an internet loan on Sept 14, 2010. I was also told that they are suing me and filing criminal charges for theft by deception for a total amount of $1780.00 – the loan was originally for $390.00. The processors name is: Wayne Phillips 1-855-773-1296 ext. 206. I called him back and Mr. Phillips said he was with a company like Universal Business Services UBS is who is calling on behalf of an overseas company called Edgewater – OPS is one of 47 lenders under their umbrella who they claim lent me $390.00 on Sept 14, 2010; which is now $1780.00 with interest. He said his company does not have any paperwork to provide regarding proof of debt. Nor will they be able to obtain any proof. All he said was they are prepared to follow-thru with legal processing and issue a pending lawsuit. I said I am not paying without proof of debt to which he replied "see you in court be sure to report to the courtroom number listed on the paperwork" then he hung up.

No debt validation, no debt. It's that simple.
How can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).
