I think this is legit. I called in and it was regarding a lawsuit for past due rent since i had bounced out of my lease early. they were able to provide me documents for it as well. i just don't have the money to pay so a judgment will be placed on my credit

This is a debt collections company called: CRG

The caller identified themselves as Harris County Couriers Office and wanted to send an investigator out to our address to serve a Summons. They provided a number of 855-371-0392 and a case number......stated they will place the investigator on hold for 1 hour to let the person they were calling for call back.  Rhetorical question....... is the court summons delivered via mail and Sheriffs Office?!?!?!?!?!

When calling the number given, they answer "Corporate Office".  The

Legitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process.  They will deliver the notification without warning.

Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:
    http://news.uscourts.gov/warning-arrest-warrant-scam

"The warrant is phony. A valid warrant would not be served by fax or e-mail. It would be served in person by a U.S. Marshal or other law enforcement officer."

"Anyone receiving a fake arrest warrant should contact the FBI or the district U.S. Marshals Office. If there is any question regarding the authenticity of a warrant, contact your district clerk of court."

Scam.  If you were going to be "served", you wouldn't get a threatening phone call (which is illegal, btw).  The process server would just show up.  Real process servers do not give you a heads up they're coming to visit either.  You would also NOT be told to call another number - again, the process server is paid to deliver legal documents, summons, etc - he is not paid to call you and tell you to call this or that number.

Court summons are delivered via either process server, or in some jurisdictions, a police officer, or can be mailed to you, via certified mail.

Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to mail - do not accept email or fax - proof of debt/proof they have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their first call to you is another violation of federal law, and as such, you should not pay them!

Please do report these losers to the FTC FBI and your state's Attorney General.

    Confused
Is is true that they will serve summons at work? Is that even legal that you get summons at work?
