Ugh, what a nightmare. I was convinced this was fraud because I never do anything that I would have to worry about being 'investigated" or "pursued" about and I told the "locator" to go to hell. Now my employers are convinced I'm some kind of criminal. After a few days I finally called the "firm". Turns out the loan I took out for my son last year (which I thought was paid in full) never had a single payment made towards it. I called the original creditor, who verified they "charged it off" and sold it to another "holding" company. I followed it all the way back to

Then you won't have any problem giving the name and physical address of this company, if it's so "legit".  BTW, locators do NOT call you - they just find you - they don't do anything else.  Calling your work place and disclosing to them about an alleged debt is also another violation of the FDCPA - so your story is not looking too good.

The "firm"?  So you came here and posted your story - which is not looking so good by the minute - and that's what the agency was called?  The "firm"?  You took out a loan for your son last year, and you weren't aware that allegedly, no payments were made - and yet you thought it was paid in full?  Sorry - this story is looking more and more like BS.

Oh, and per the FDCPA, it doesn't matter if you're called by debt collectors or attorneys working as or on behalf of debt collectors - they STILL have to MAIL a debt validation letter within five days of their first call showing that you owe a debt and that they have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to do this is yet another violation of federal law.

Rick, I'm not quite sure what to make of your post.  There are two issues here.  First, did your son actually default on a loan.  Second, is the legitimacy of the locator service calling itself the "firm".

We have seen a slew of complaints about some supposed process serving company that refers to itself as "the firm".  That group appears to be more likely than not a debt collector using illegal tactics to collect on debts that consumers deny owing.  We have also seen false or "shill" posts by employees of "the firm" made on this board to device consumers.  The tone and demeanor of your post (and your command of English) aren't consistent with "firm" shill posts IMHO.

Now, more importantly is the loan itself.  It is possible that your son did "default" on a loan and it was sent for collections.  However, "the firm" might not even have the right to collect on that loan, it may be with another collection agency.  I would suggest directly calling the original creditor (i.e., company or bank that issued the loan) and speaking with them regarding the status of the account and exactly who they placed it with if it is in collections

Why is everyone bashing Rick? He told you what he found out. If you all are so worried about who this company is, then call them and ask. I had a message on my phone from a Collection Agency regarding a debt owed by someone I did not know. The message advised me to call the company that the debt was through. I called the number they gave me (855-410-9598), the gentleman answered the phone "Accurate, How can I help you?". I explained the message I received and gave them the "order number" that the collection agency had given me. The gentleman then asked for verification of the name of the person they had been trying to reach. He informed me that the call was from the debt collection service they use and that he would notify them that the contact phone number was incorrect so that I would not receive any more calls. It seemed like a legit company to me and the gentleman I spoke with was friendly and professional.

Michelle and & Rick I tend to agree with the others.  A couple of years ago I had a "processor" call my cell regarding a debt that I knew was placed in a a different collection company as it was just sent to collections and the company had given me the contact info to it.  I was being bullied by the processor that I would be thrown in jail for writing a bad check (It was a pay day loan) if I did not give her access to my home and pay money by end of the business day If I'm not mistaken (and I;m 99% sure it was Accurate behind this.  I called Accurate and told them they did not have this collection and they needed to back off and not call my home anymore.  The processor called every hour on the hour.  I finally called the actual company I owed and they tried to tell me that it was not there problem and I told them I would turn them in as well as the collection company and report them as harassment if they did not get this company to leave me alone since they  were harassing me. That I would no longer owe them the debt but they as in both companies would owe my money.  I also learned by an attorney that this is a new scam that similar company names are (or close to company names) are able to get debt info and are playing this tactic which is illegal.  BTW when you do get a pay day loan and it does not clear you bank when they put it through or comes back to them, it is not consider a bad check.  It is bad debt.  You can not be arrested in your home either.  My attorney informed me of all of this.  But last friday the calls have started again with the same company.  This processor is not as pushy and or aggressive and I've put her off as I'm not in the mood to deal with the lies because they are relentless.  It took me having the company I owed the money too to get them to stop calling me.  So Here we go again.  I checked with the BBB and they have a high score but I remember they said they were from CA and it says online they are from OR.  They are scammers with american accents.

Could you give us more information on this company?  I tried to find them on the BBB website but could come up with no information.  I also did a search and found 2 Accurate companies that collect debts.  One is in Ireland and they have doorstep collectors that come to your house if you ignore the letters and phone calls.  The other company is located in Michigan.  I found no companies in either California or Oregon.  Maybe I did not enter the name properly?  I would like to know just in case this firm ever calls me so that I will know who I am dealing with.  Thanks for any information you supply, I will be extremely grateful.

Michelle, in an ideal world, yes.  However, that is not always the case, especially with unscrupulous and illegal debt collectors.  I switched cell phone careers last year and was assigned the number of an individual who must have had some serious debt issues.  I'm pleased to say that 9 out of 10 times I was pleasantly and professionally removed from their list (and they didn't call back).  I had a handful badger and berate me and demand my name and social security number to be removed from their list.  Give me a break!  Why would I give my personal information out to some stranger on the phone.

This is the google page I found.  They are everywhere now that I looked farther down.  But by what I've heard these scammers will use business names of real businesses.  They even are on the internet cause there phone # is too.  I thought about filing a complaint on the BBB to see what happens but I have not had time to so far today.
