this company called me twice, and then called my dad saying i owed debt and they hve been trying to contact me for several years by mail and phone. They said i owed a debt to wells fargo and even had the account number and old address. They said i had a checking account that had an overdraft protection account that overdrafted before i closed it. They said i owed 2300 but were willing to settle for 1000 if i agreed to pay that day. I told them i would call them back and they gave me a reference number. I checked my credit report and did not see them on there. I tried to call wells fargo and they said because it was so long ago they had no way to tell. Ii called this company back, and scared said i would settle. They got me to pay 1000 and they sent me a contract through email saying i agreed to pay 1000 and all debt was settled. I did not sign the document. 3 weeks latter i disputed the debt, because i was unsure, my credit card company was able to reach wells fargo and they told them that i owed them nothing and have never heard of harbourside financial. The peoples names were mike slater and richard westwood from ontario, ca. This is the number they used. Don't fall for this scam!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are very convincing and have your info!!! Do not fall for it!!!!! Tell them to send you documentatio, i told them to do that and they said they would have to charge me for that!!! Its all lies!!!!!!!!! Lies!!! - Deb replies to DebI got the exact SAME call yesterday, regarding Wells Fargo and the same two people Richard and Mike. They wanted payment arrangements and when I refused to give them my credit card number or bank account number, they said to go get a prepaid card. They sent me an electronic document which I took over TO the Wells Fargo Legal Department locally. They are in NO way representing Wells Fargo, they are lying, people do not give any money to these scammers!!!
- Deb replies to AudreyGood for you! They tried to get your money, SO glad they didn't. These guys buy old debt, debt that is past the SOL or has been paid or charged off or dismissed. They prey on your fear, they told me someone would be showing up at my place of work with "legal papers". Total scam.
- KateWe got a similar a call today. My husband fell for it and I called to follow up. As soon as I suspected SCAM, they deleted the electronic contract that they sent my husband. My husband called the bank and they confirmed that he didn't owe any money. He had given them a credit card to immediately settle the "debt, " so the bank immediately reported his card as stolen. We heard from a Robert Archuletta. Beware, everyone!

- Jay| 4 repliesI too have had several phone calls from Harbourside Financial! They got me though! Thank goodness it was for only $50.00! I finally returned their message from the several voicemails that they had left me. They told me that I had a previous account several years ago with formally Wachovia Bank (Which was bought out a few years ago by Wells Fargo), for an account I once had with them. They said that I basically closed it with a negative balance on it, and that over the several years that it had built up interest and penalty fees of over $3,100! Mind you, they "claimed that the account was closed with an $1,100+negative balance. I knew something seemed funny, but he basically used "scare tactics" and threats to me, and told men that if I didn't try to "settle" with them that nite and at least show good faith with them bye paying something, then they were willing to move fwd. with the debt and take me too civil court, where they good garnish anywhere between 25%-50% of my wages! Im a single parent, and I live from check to check, so I basically panicked and told them that all I could afford too pay them that nite was $50.00 . He then said they would accept that, but I would need to continue to pay them $200.00 on Jan1., then starting on Feb. 15th and on the 15th of every month, they would charge my debit card until the "Debt" was paid in full on Sept. of 2017! Luckily, I had a friend do some research and check into them, and could not find ANY business named HARBOURSIDE FINANCIAL that exists in Onterio, CA! She checked the address, and nothing is located there, but a bunch of suites that have nothing to do with debt collections. I immediately contacted Wells Fargo, who had never even heard of them, and then I contacted my bank, and am currently being re issued a new debit card.... It was a woman who left a voicemail one time, but she never left me her name. the mans name who ROBBED me was DANIEL PADILLA! the numbers he called me from were 855-974-6089 and 855-448-0413. THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM !!!!!!!!! PLEASE don't get fooled like I did!!! THESE PEOPLE ARE SCUM, AND ARE FEEDING OFF OF HARDWORKING GOOD PEOPLE!!!

- BigA replies to Jay| 1 replyFirst, they would have had to take you to court after properly serving you, present their case, win a judgement, and then get a court or for garnishment providing it was allowed in your state. Garnishment is 25% of disposable income, the income that is left over after you pay the bills you need to live on. So by their saying 50%, that was an out and out lie to scare you into paying which they did. Everything they did violates the FDCPA. Now read the follwoing carefully and use the links to learn more and to file reports on their criminal activities:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

- Broke replies to Will| 1 replyThey called my wife and father but not me. I was not married and didn't even know my wife at the time they claimed that I accrued the debt. I got the same story about Wachovia and Wells Fargo, which i may have had a Wachovia account but that was over a decade ago. I spoke with Anthony Mendez. I kept asking him questions about the dept but he had no answers. He said that they were only the process servers for Harbourside. He said that the only way I could get info about the debt was to go to court. That statement was what made it obvious that it was a scam. I never got any scare tactics but i'm sure it is not over.
- BigA replies to BrokeThey call family, friends, neighbors and/or places of employment (past or present or both) to create panic and embarrassment so that their intended victim calls them and they can scare that person into paying their extortion money. Now for the rest, read my post up there and use the information to prevent yourself from becoming the victim of a crime.
- Jwow replies to Jay| 1 replyRecieved a voicemail saying that I need to call 1-855-696-6935 because a complaint has been filed against me and. I called the 855 number and girl answers the phone with "answering service" gave her my file number and she transfered me to a Julie Anderson claiming to be from a litigation office and she is needing to collect on an old credit card and she needed to collect by the end if the day to avoid a law suit. She said she would email documents that need to be signed and returned with my card information to make this $600 payment. She told me that they tried to contact me 60 days ago but certified mail was undeliverable because either someone refused to sign for it or it was reported that I didn't live there or no one at that address knew me. These scammers have your personal info so it sounds credible and they have legal verbiage. She was very aggressive on the phone and told me how dare I check up behind her because she is a very honest person and I was very rude for doing that. A few days went by and I called her back and she answers the phone with "what do you want? " What kind of litigation office andwers the phone that way? She told me I need to stop calling or else she is going to report me. I told her I was purposely harrasing her so that she does report me so I can get concrete info on her. I had a field day with her sending her emails and continously calling. Then I called the answering service again and I started interrogating the girl that answered. She then tells me that she cannot answer any of my questions that I need to talk to her manager Rodney. I then interrogated him, eventually pissing him off to the point that he told me he has a job behind a desk at a computer while I'm at home sitting on the couch eating bom boms. I called him a fat [***] and so on. Do not answer to these people. They are frauds and criminals. Don't fall for it. I almost did and am pissed off at the fact that it sounded so real and convincing I thought I was really facing a law suit. I told this supposed Julie Anderson I wish she was here in front of me so I could beat her [***] and even sent her screens shots of reported incidents of people she's tried to scam and she never replied. And when she emailed me a hyperlink to the supposed legal documents she retrieved them and put them in her trash bin. When I went back to look for the link it was blank and said the documents were no longer available. Sender deleted and put in trash. SCAM!!!!! [***]!

Mar 27, 2016 - Lauren| 2 repliesFirst, I got a call from Melvin Davis who's number was blocked and then told me he was located in Washington D.C. He then said I needed to meet his driver outside my house to sign for paperwork and have my license ready. First he said the driver was outside my old address and then when I corrected him and said I no longer reside there he was quick to say "Oh, I mean he's outside [address]". He gave me a case number and a phone number to call DANIEL PADILLA. His number was 855-448-0417 and his direct line was 909-666 (how amusing) 0529. He told me I was being sued by such said credit card company for over $2k and that i needed to make payment in full today to avoid being served with papers. I said how can you prevent me from being served when someone is supposedly outside my old address waiting for me. He tried pulling this crap with me back in February when he said he would mail me the appropriate documents and then email them as well for verification. He became rude and insulting telling me I needed a steady 40/hr job to afford my life. When I refused to pay the amount he wanted, he then offered me a "hardship agreement" which he SWORE he offered me before, because you know, he had it written in his notes. I was at work at the time, freaking out from this call so my stupid self gave me my credit card info. He then sent over this bogus pdf form to submit with my signature authorizing $50/week be deducted from my checking account. After further investigating I came to my senses and had my debit card deactivated. Tomorrow I will be closing my account and reopening a new one. My credit report shows no indication of a $2300 delinquent balance. DO NOT allow these people to intimidate you or harass you.
