    I got a call from this number. They left a message stating the following "This is Mike Stone contacting you concerning insufficient or fraudulent transactions that were issued by you in exchange for funds through a bank wire. Your name and social security number have been red flagged pending our investigation into this matter. You can contact this office at 855-443-1210. Thank you". I was like WTH. I call the number back with my number blocked to find out what this is about and some guy named Joe picks up. Does not say who they are or what company they work for. I tell him that I received a call asking for me to call back about someone using my social security number for some wire transfer. He tells me please hold. Keeps me on hold for like 5 minutes then comes back to the phone and says sorry I think we called the wrong number. WTH. I did not even tell him my name and he tells me they called the wrong number. Sounds like a scam to me!

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

    My husband keeps getting the same voice mail message as R.C. got.  I called the number back and got an automated message that I'd reached the office of "Marshall Greenberg".  I left my first name & number and asked that Mike Stone return my call.  We'll see what happens.  It smells like a scam to me also.

    Fraud. If your phone allows it block future calls from this number. How do I know? Mike Stone called me this morning on a phone number that is not connected to ANY of my actual accounts, SS or anything of value... the phone number I use on those accounts is unlisted. In fact, the number I got the message on is one I got at an 18 cents a minute pay as you go cell phone provider specifically to use for things like filling out online forms and using for my domain registration to keep my personal phone number from getting into the hands of scammers.

    I'm betting it's safe to ignore this call since he did not know my real phone number and, instead, called a "throw away" phone.

    I guess Mr. Stone has changed his name...maybe to Scott Evans.  I am receiving calls from 855-443-1209 which amazingly enough, when you call this number - you get an automated message that you have reached the office of "Marshall Greenberg"!!!!!!!!

    "This is Scott Evans.  Your name and social security number have been red flagged pending our investigation into this matter. You can contact this office at 855-443-1210. Thank you".  Now they say something about affidavit's and actually provided me a case number.....

    Anyone else see the little red-flags regarding the PHONE NUMBERS; and COMPANY NAME?

    Same exact message was left on my home phone.  I called back from my cell phone and they asked if I was calling about my cell number.  I said no, and then they asked what number I was calling about.  Put me on hold for about 5 min and came back and said they didn't have anything listed for that number.  BEWARE--I am sure they are trying to get personal account information from people.  I do not give out any personal information on my phone and I suggest you don't either.

    LOL! Thanks for the laugh..  Of course with the name, first thing came to my mind was is his name Steven?

    Just to be on the safe side, you might want to flag any accounts, your credit for fraud alerts.  If they have your SS and name, make sure any info about yourself online is removed from public view. Google you name and phone number and remove anything that comes like spokeo etc..  And check your credit for anything amiss, flag it also.

    Got a call from "Jason Marshall" # 855-546-8939  He called my sister in law who is 74 and in poor health, said he was looking for me and if I didn't call him about this "debt settlement" I would be placed on some kind of "wanted list".I have no idea who he is or what he wants!! I have a feeling it is a scam. If anyone knows where this call could have originated from, Id like to call the attorney general to report it.
    Thanks
