For the "fun" of it, I answered the call from this number just to see what kind of scam was being pushed these days. It went straight to a recording about "Student Loans", and "Press 1 to listen, or 9 to be removed".  I stupidly pressed 9, where as I should have just hung up. Pressing 9 just confirmed I was really a valid number, so my mistake.  Truthfully, I have no confidence that I will be removed regardless, or that anything is actually done with such requests to be removed.  Oh well, such is the life of a down-and-out scammer.

Just received a call from this number. I let it go to VM and than checked it. The message stated that my "student loan debt relief application" was incomplete and pending. I am not sure what the deal is. No one in the family even has a student loan yet, let alone the need for debt relief of one. The only thing I can think of is that we filled out a FAFSA application. I do not know how my phone number got out since it is supposed to be a secure site.

Inside job, maybe? Is someone working there selling phone numbers? I just know it is a scam. First of all they do not ask for a specific person on the application. They probably will tell you it is incomplete and ask for a name, address, birth-date, and Social Security number, saying they need it to access your account on their computer (Now they have your identity) and/or ask for a processing fee (which is how they get your credit card info). DO NOT give this type of info over the phone.

Even if you get an e-mail from what looks like it is legitimate, say from e-Bay, Pay-Pal, or your Bank, asking to log in because there is a problem with your account (or something to that effect). These will be vague as well, with no name mentioned (usually it just states "Dear Customer"). DO NOT click on the link. Scammers will link you to a  Log In page that looks like the legitimate one. Once you log in they will have your info and can drain your account. If you have any doubts. Go to the company's Log In site in a separate window. If there is an actual problem you can find it there. If there isn't a problem you know the e-mail is a scam.

I hope this helps a little. Scammers will always find new ways. We just need to keep informed of new scams as they come to light and spread what we know.

I didn't answer when it came in, as it said United States calling. Wow! All of the United States is calling my phone! I guess I had better let that go to voicemail, and I did. When I checked the message it was a partial that said "...student loans, press one now to hear this message, or press nine to be removed from out list." Dang it, Deucie! I wish I had picked up to press nine.
