- Myself| 4 repliesI got a very intimidated message from someone saying that I have to respond within 24 hrs otherwise they'll proceed with legal actions against me. They must be collectors... I did not understood the name of the Company, I heard a male voice saying something about Central Time at the beginning, and my cellphone vol was very low.
- Caller: collectros
- Call type: Debt collector
- fed up replies to Myself| 3 repliesIdentified themselves via call bot as Atlantic Processing Group, supposedly has very important legal papers that I must give prompt attention to. Fraudsters.
- Annoyed| 2 repliesDealt with these people yesterday (the scare tactics worked!). They called from a number with no caller id. When I answered, he said that he wanted to resolve a debt from some payday loans that I had taken out in January of 2012. Couldn't tell me the company besides CMG. He told me that I was going to have papers served and was going to be arrested. Gave me a number of 844-528-4487. I looked and I've paid this company for this loan before. When I tried to call back, there was no answer and a generic message asking me to leave a message. Received another call this morning from a no caller id number. The woman (Michelle Hunt) left me a very nasty message saying I was becoming a problem and that she was going to file the paper work to have this processed. She gave me a different company (Carrier Services). She gave me the number 855-482-8037. I've paid this debt off multiple times and now these people are becoming threatening.
- Caller: CMG/ Carrier Services
- VinReceived a voicemail similar to the previous posts. No idea why. I suggest not doing anything over the phone and block the number if you can. Get all the information in writing and investigate. Check your credit report as well.
- Caller: Atlantic Processing Group

- Jim Spaid| 3 repliesReceived TWO calls today from this number, simultaneously on two different lines! Caller id. reads "Atlantic Proces", recorded message plays identifying [itself] as "Atlantic Processing..." and as another commenter wrote, message was the same: 'important legal matter... pending legal action ...will be escalated... call this number ...' etc. I just laughed and hung up and I'll tell you why: for STARTERS, the message--of course--does NOT STATE WHOM they're trying to contact! NO ONE can be in any way shape or form held legally 'answerable' to any such 'unaddressed' message, verbal / written--DUH? X )
+it IS ILlegal for any debt collector to initiate contact with anyone via pre-recorded message,
+ illegal for them to threaten legal action before even informing anyone of what ever in the world they're only HOPING you'll jump to a conclusion they're even claiming to be calling about,
+ illegal for them to make any such 'collections' claims without showing ANY documented proof that they're authorized to collect ... ANYthing.
+ NO ONE IS EVEN 'LEGALLY' OBLIGED TO ANSWER THEIR PHONE, unless issued a court-order to do so in the first place! If you can't be bothered then don't even answer, let alone PAY them a single red cent!
They want your money THAT bad, and they actually have any legal standing to contact you for any such reason, believe me, they're NOT going to have any trouble MAILING their claim in writing.
FIRST, Know your U.S. credit consumer rights, BEFORE DOING ANYTHING:
check out the Better Business Bureau web-site, they make it QUITE easy and plain to understand what collections agencies can and CAN'T legally do!
Note to self:
"Atlantic Processing [whatever]" is an organized crime 'company'--pure and simple, and because I know my rights, I can tell you that without even having to answer the phone. I'm putting them down as nothing more than a 'prank call' because really, if you're going to 'pay off' any dog that barks at your door without any proof whatsoever they've any legal reason to be there? Joke's on you and everyone else who get's harassed by these blackguards. 'Don't feed the nasty tele-CONs!' ; ]- Caller: Atlantic Processing [?]
- Call type: Prank
- JanetI got a call this morning from a place identified on caller ID as Atlantic Processing Group. They said it was pertaining to legal documents and that it required immediate attention. Otherwise further escalation of the legal process would be taken. I looked up the name of that company and could not find it anywhere.
- Caller: Atlantic Processing Company
- Call type: Debt collector
- what is upI received a phone call from the same place as much as I hate automated phone calls. I called back and really no one to take call. Read your post on here I would like to thank everyone for their in put, that stopped me from making a bad decision thanks again.

- Marianne replies to AnnoyedYou shouldn't pay a penny without something in writing.
- Marianne| 2 repliesI received the same call and the lady was rude and hung up on me saying I was being hostile. She was even looking at my public court records to try to intimidate me. I looked further into it. Even if you do owe a payday loan the only thing they can do is sue you. If you already have a judgement they can't even collect off you. And they can try to file charges but most likely the da is not going to pick up the case. They are nowhere to be found. No website. I even called ones and they accidentally picked up and you can hear a man singing and dancing. Pay them no more mind. Send them a letter to stop contact with you and they have to. Po box 7725 billing Montana 59101. Is what they gave me.
- Caller: Atlantic processing group
- exposure replies to fed up| 1 replyHey people it's a scam so relax ! They can't serve anyone real court papers because it's a scare tactic. Don't send any money and tell them to send you their fake papers. It's a scam.everyone. I'm an attorney.
- Jim Spaid replies to Jim Spaid| 2 repliesI reported the prior calls to the Better Business Bureau... so far no response from the agency/people making these harassment/nuisance calls...
& yet TODAY (about half a month later) another pair of calls with the same illegal recorded message!?
Looks like time to try calling our phone company to file a harassment report instead. - BigA replies to Jim Spaid| 1 replyThe BBB probably can't locate them. Even if they did, they are not a law enforcement agency, and have no power to compel a business to answer. The proper place to file a complaint on a debt collectors is: Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: http://consumerfraudreporting.org/stateattorneygenerallist.php - CWG40 replies to MarianneReport them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening criminal prosecution in order to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act)
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. If you can find them. - Jim Spaid replies to BigAThank you, 'Big A'!
Oh, I've got this agency confused with another pre-recorded telle-harassment operation...
...this one doesn't even state WHAT they're (allegedly) calling about--so I don't know that it's necessarily a 'collections' call.
I've just had my phone company block their calls from my cell--gotta do same for land-line {which is a different service co.}... but peculiarly enough, despite the phone co.'s service person saying they get 'loads' of these complaints daily?
They couldn't advise WHAT law-enforcement agency to contact regarding a bone-fide harassment complaint? {Rather 'customer service' irresponsible, gotta say--not that I'm surprised, mind.}
Last time I had dealings with The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau they largely succeeded in wasting about half-a-days worth of my time and NOTHING ELSE whatsoever. Wouldn't even provide information on what (if any) action they've (only maybe--but probably haven't) taken ... without my having to 'create an account' on their web-site complete with {have you guessed yet? 'Why, YES that's right, dear consumer fraud and harassment victim! It's ANOTHER NEW...'} PASSword!! Congratulations! = ( I'm about ready to 'go postal' on all these tech-nerds of the world who THINK it's no ... 'biggie'(? ; ) that EVERYONE should have to keep a password list no less than half a page long anymore. 'Balls to 'em all', I say. X )
I will look into complaining to the Attorney General, however =the sounder advice, surely!
Presently I'm about to file a 'tip' report on the F.B.I.'s web-site, as well.
These links are much appreciated.
Cheerio. - Kg| 1 replyI have been receiving the same phone calls with two different women threading me that I need to call them rite away saying they r in working conjunction with my county on a so called payday loan I supposely I took out in 2011 I don't ever recall taking one out and even getting involved with them the women name that keeps calling me is a Bethany Newman the last call I got and did call back I'd had talk to a different lady named latress matter they almost got me glad I called the sheriff dept and had them investigated
- Alfalfa replies to KgHow can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).
