Received a call saying I owe money for a checking issue.  Then the voicemail said they would be serving me at my work or place of residence.  What a scam!  I hope no one else believes this is real!

Ordinary debt is NOT a felony!

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

Slim is correct!  A phone call or voice mail or email is not evidence of debt owed.  A letter of validation is required to be legal under FDCPA.  So, Greenline and others GET LOST and go call overseas and try your game.  A bullet will solve your problems and in some instances that may be what you deserve

I've gotten several calls, one from 855-495-4102, and a few weeks prior to that call also from a local number 973-630-7772.  I answered from the local number and the STUPID guy was so unprofessional, and inconsistent with the information, while in the back ground I could hear guys laughing!  I blocked the local number and now today again they called on this 855 number leaving a long message giving a company name, Greenline Recovery.  I googled it and I'm thrilled to see that my instincts didn't fail me, and in fact it is a SCAM, as I thought it is  The pretense they told me is I owe money from a pay-day loan, which I don't.  I think I'm going to return the call and ask where I can walk in and pay my bill!!! LOL

I received a voicemail message from this number
"My name is James Bronson and I have reason to believe either you or someone else is using your social security number to commit felony bank fraud."
I'm glad I googled it to see if it was a scam! Being laid up in the hospital from surgery and hearing this message was not what I needed. Thanks to those who have posted prior so that I may now continue to rest without worry.

I received two voice messages from a recovery group saying that Skylar Davis or her attorney should call them within 48 hours on the first call and 72 hours on the second call about her bank fraud problem.  I don't know who they are talking about or how they got my information. We have had a lot of scam calls lately.  I am also sure this is a scam.

I received a voicemail with a recording of my name stating that I was to contact them within 72 hours at 844-662-8940 or they were sending something to my "local jurisdiction"  What a damn scam.  They stated that they were Berkshire Recovery.  I think they make up names as they go along.  Also, actually called on a spoofed number in my area code.

I hope no one falls for their scam.

How do they sleep at night?
