I received a threatening call at work while I was out of the office from an Orlando Garcia.  I called Orlando back at the number provided to my office in which he was threatening a law suit and could not provide documentation of anything.  He called in from a different number than he provided.  I confirmed that it was a scam by calling a lawyers office and called the FBI.  I also reported to the federal trades commission. Mr. Garcia was from ARG which is not incorporated on the California secretary of state website.  The address is comes up as a UPS office meaning they just may have a postal box,  and they are not on the BBB website.  The phone number is a phone number,  but does not tie to a company Web page via Google.

This ARG has a long history on 800notes.   They call themselves Accelerated Recovery Group, or Asset Recovery Group or whatever name they choose for the particular call.  They regularly impersonate police officers and threaten arrests.  No idea where they are located.  I doubt if they are a legal entity--just a group of scammers working out of someone's house.

    Still, report them:   http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

    * File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage     http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
    * File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in

My son just received that same phone call from "Orlando Garcia"   The caller ID just said 951.  "Orlando" said a lot of blarney about a debt from 2006 from a Chase credit card that went from $1700 to over $5000.....and an impending civil suit against him, warrants, etc.  BUT if he paid by tomorrow (August 5th), paid the the amount of the original debt (supposedly $1700), all would be resolved.  Going to report this now!!! So glad, grateful for this website.  PS: we live in West Virginia.

More info: Yesterday when my son was called, he originally received a voice mail from a "Scott Taylor" about this "debt" (and the legal threats) with a number to call him back at.  The caller ID said 951.  When my son called the number and asked for "Scott Taylor" he was given to "Orlando Garcia".  Later in the day, even though he had been told he had 24 hours to pay the debt, they left another VM saying that they were going to send legal paperwork at his place of work.  OH!  And this morning they called his place of work. I actually contacted these people today and the address they gave me was 3880 Sierra Ave, Riverside, California, 92523  they said that the company name is ARG and that it didn't stand for anything, they said they ARE incorporated in the state of California.  Which, apparently, from Chris's info, they are not.  I Spokeo searched the number 855-495-9221 and "The phone number you searched is invalid. Are you sure you entered the number correctly? Please try your search again."  I Spokeo searched the address, could not get anything at the address they gave me.  These people are slick, they are aggressive, but quite ready to get off the phone if they don't get info from you (like the file #, which they try hard to get out of you).

I too got a call from these people, # comes across as 951. 1st call came on 8/4/2014 the man said his name was Michael? Then just an hr. ago I got a second call, from a completely different person (the voice's are totally different) but he also said his name is Michael??  I have already informed my Attorney about these call's and I have an appointment today to let him listen to the messages as well.   7 years ago I had a similar issue, calls from strange people stating I had a debt they were taking me to court on.  My attorney back then handled it for me, and   WE TOOK THEM TO COURT INSTEAD.  Needless to say no one ever showed up from there company and we walked out of the court house with a Dismissal with prejudice (which means this case can never be brought to court again by them). If these are the same people as 7 years ago, I believe I will sue them again and press for punitive damages this time.  I will also be using the link above to inform  FBI

Follow up :     I met with my Attorney yesterday and he told me these people find public information and use it against you, as with me they saw a "Judgment" on my credit report from 2009.   What they don't see is that court case was DISSMISSED and can never be brought to court again.   I really should have checked to make sure the "Judgment" was removed after we won that case but I did not.   Now I must contact all 3 credit bureau's, dispute it and send the release and dismissal as proof.   I suggest you all have your credit report's checked from all 3 bureau's. If its a legitimate debt but older than 5 years go online find a Template for a  CEASE and DESIST order,  ( the one on Thompsonhall.com is a good one) fill it in step by step and then call ARG on a blocked #...   DO  NOT,   I repeat   DO  NOT   give any info to whoever answer's your call.  NOTHING !  NOT EVEN YOUR NAME, FILE #  NOTHING..  Just ask then for there street address and send them a copy of the cease and desist.

Someone has been leaving messages on my house phone and cell phone... Caller ID states it is a private #. But he finally left a message with a return number of 1855 495 9221... He said he was calling about a past debt that his office received... And wanted to settle the debt or seek legal action.
