I received a call from this company stating that they had a subpoena for me under a name I have not used in many years. When Ia sked for the name of the company they started to get loud and quickly refrenced CMG Holdings which I looke up and is a marketing company, not a collections department. I had my attorney call back to inquire and they proceeded to hang up on her twice.

I do not believe that this is a ‎Legitimate company or organization.

I received a call from this number stating I was being sued by a credit card company that I had never dealt with. They said I would be served and would have to defend myself in front of the judge. I will never answer the phone when the number 855-546-8980 or 000-000-000 comes up!

I got a call from this number a few days ago,   855-546-8980, the man said he was from CMG Holding and was a 'legal assigner' and that this was a final attempt to collect a payday loan from 9 years ago. .  The amount of information he had was shocking and kind of convincing. He said if I didn't do something it was going into legal action. Which is odd that after nine years, they would be taking me to court for $350.

I couldn't find any information on them in the Internet, only this thread with the phone number.

I just pulled my credit report and this collection doesn't show on there.

So if it's not real, why are they calling. ..

I just posted above, but they sent me some documents that I haven't opened because you have to electronically sign for them.

On the terms it has Merchant Receivables Group LLC

I'm so confused about what is going on.

I received a call today from this number. They threatened me with a past bill from 11 years ago, claiming they were going to take me to court in a state I haven't lived in for years. They said if I paid them a certain amount of money today, or installments it would not go to court. The women I spoke to then layed out that if that if it went to court, and I didn't show up, I would have wage garnishments, a warrant out for my arrest, and my drivers license suspended. I was terrified, and started asking questions she didn't know the answers to. I asked how she got my new number as it was changed. She said an investigation found me, but I guess the "investigation" failed to show I've lived in several states since then, and they still thought I lived in the original state. I asked for a number to contact the original "creditor" and she said "I will call them and call you back. Checked my credit report tonight and found no such collections. Contacted an attorney, he said what they did was illegal and a scam. This is a total scam using the worst kind of scare tactics. Do not fall for this.

Glad you did not fall for the scam!

    Lurkers:
A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

I received a voice mail from this number stating that there was a claim filed by a local merchant against me for a returned note?  They stated that it has been linked to my name and drivers license.  I called the number back, she didn't know who the "local merchant" was, but said for $350 today she could finalize this claim.  Right, I'm going to give you my credit card/bank account to pay for something you cannot even provide proof exists.  Do not give these people any of your information.  This is a total scam!

Talked to them two days ago they said they are collecting on a debt I have a paid in full statement on. Told them I'd email it to them to settle the matter but the addresses they provide don't work and are for a .org which is strange since they ar a collection agency.  Anyway today I called them back and recorded the conversation as is my right in the state that I live in. They claim that the account numbers don't match and that I was scammed by the company I paid or that I had multiple loans through this company which I did not. I asked for the original lenders information and was told "CMG now holds the legal right to collect this debt so you would call us." Something smells fishy to me so I asked well who can my attorney speak to because one way or another someone either did or is trying to defraud me. They explained that I could have my attorney call them to handle the situation, after I send them a "power of attorney". Guess I'll let my attorney handle it then. I'm so damn sick of people taking advantage of me this will be the 5th company now to claim I have pay them for this same loan.

I told them not to call me again. Then they hung up on me so I called back and said do not call me again and the woman said "well you don't call this office again."  Then she hung up.

These scammers are not even sophisticated. Sounded like they both had a elementary school education.

Did 'Rose' anywhere in her message say that she owed money? I guess that's why they spell the word 'assume' the way they do. Especially the first three letters. Are you still riding around on the turnip truck? There is a VERY large scam going on where foreign criminals, spoofing (faking) their caller ID are calling Americans & trying to extort money from them on debts they do not owe. Say, could you get off the soap box? We need it for the soap.

Well, they are trying to scam you out of money.  They are trying to scare you into thinking you owe money to these people and they will demand payment in the form of some untraceable financial instrument.  That's it, basically.

What makes you think we are just going to give you money because you cold call us and tell us a lot of nonsense and do not send the required debt validation letter by US mail?  Who does that?

    CWG40 replies to Portland, OR
Total scam.  You can't be arrested for ordinary civil debt.  Only judges can issue orders for wage garnishments and only the DMV of judges can suspend DLs.

This is a technique used by these scammers.  They cold call you and threaten you and hope that you will be so startled you won't think and just hand them over money by untraceable financial insturments.  Greeen dot cards and so forth.

    Don't fall for it.

Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

If they are bothering you, report them:

    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
