Letter in mail, claiming "Congratulations" New Laptop/Netbook...complete with Microsoft software (however not affiliated with Microsoft) recipients are responsible for an activation fee plus shipping and handling--activation of what???? I hate this crap. No such thing as free lunch, maybe I am to stupid to know better...but sounds hinkey to me. Will be interested to see if its a scam. I will be calling BB and Orange County Register and Orange County Sheriff

It's not a scam it's a marketing strategy.  You have to attend a seminar talking about the benefits of going solar and listen to a sales pitch to buy solar.  at the end you get the gift(coupon to redeem).  you do pay shipping and handling to receive the gift but you'll get it even if you don't buy their product.

There is no company out there just handing out touchpads and computers out of the kindness of their hearts.  Any company doing this type of thing is doing it as a marketing strategy.

So if by 'Scam' you mean they don't just give you a laptop for calling that number then, ok.  But that's absurd if that's what you actually thought it was.

Call the number, go to the seminar, listen to the sales pitch, get coupon, send in with 29.99 money order for shipping and handling, receive netbook or touchpad in mail 7-10 business days later.

Yes, I received one also and I called. I am very glad I did, I was interested in getting solar for my home and they were offering a free presentation so I went. It was great and I also got a free netbook. Of course they were selling something you have to be pretty ignorant not to know that. I am very happy with this company!

It's not a hoax, it is not a fraud, they are not trying to sell you anything. It is Nelnet, a servicer of student loans. They will call if you are defaulted on your student loans.
