Just got a call from a restricted number, didn't p/u. The call was apparently intended for my ex-husband, whom I divorced TWENTY YEARS AGO  And haven't seen since!

Caller identifies herself as Jess-something or other (it's garbled) and gives a "case file number" (#27523-1), then says she is "calling in reference to a complaint that's been forwarded" to her office.

She refers to her "firm" several times (seemingly implying it's a law firm), but NEVER IDENTIFIES THE FIRM.

As a criminologist specializing in Deceptive Enterprise, I find this quite suspect, especially since my husband of 15 years owns his own law practice and I know that no legit "firm"--ESPECIALLY NOT A LAW FIRM--would ever make an "initial-contact" call and NOT identify which firm they work for.

Also curious: she says that if he doesn't respond soon, they will "be forced to take immediate action without his consent." I've never heard ANYONE use this phrase in legit business--if institutional "action" needs to be taken (i.e. filing of a suit or a formal complaint with an agency), the consent of whomever is the recipient of that action is irrelevant!  After all, how many people consent to being sued, arrested, fined, etc?

Finally, a POI: I've been remarried for 15 years and  know the ex has also been.  He also has worked for the FAA for at least fifteen years and is on facebook--thus, he is NOT hard to find!

So why are they calling MY private, unpublished cell number? How did they even get it and, furthermore, why did they contact ME when he is clearly publicly traceable?

    Conclusion:
HIGHLY likely a scam. The caller relies on the fact that most people will take the threat of "action against them" seriously and will thus call back right away to straighten it out.  The restricted number is also hinky--legit "firms" don't purposely block their phone numbers.

These people are soooo bogus it's comical. They refur to themselves as "the operator", "the firm", "the building" and of course "the company". Hilarious! They claim that I had a outstanding loan from 2002 of somewhere around $3500.00 HA HA. Oh, I'm also going to receive a Simmons for court and I can explain it to the Judge. Only an idiot would fall for this BS. They are the SCUMM of the earth and bottom feeders.

They try to collect on bogus bills they say you have. Then they try to your address and they want the last 4 of your social. A bunch of scam artists from the person who leaves you the message. To the one you talk to.

Jessica tells you that she is a separate company that works for a "firm."  Will not tell you the name of the firm.  Tells you that your file is "red flagged."  Gives you a file number.  Something about a complaint summons and you have to call a special number.  When asked WTF a complaint summons is she doesn't seem to know her herself.  She just says, "that means court."  Then, she keeps saying something about needing a signature.  Just so confusing.  Think they are just trying to collect money from people fraudulently like a Nigerian scam.

I received subject call today, July 30. I never answer the phone unless I know who is calling. I let the call go to the answering machine.

They called my family so I called back even though my lawyer advised it wasn't necessary.  The guys first question was if I had a lawyer.  Total BS.  REMEMBER THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS ON ANY DEBT.
