Who do this number belongs to? They call saying they are filing some claim against the person and want to know their whereabouts.

Caller left message insinuating that there is an outstanding claim against person. Very suspicious sounding.

Getting the same thing as the other comments called me saying I had a formal complaint then called back with a different private number stating if payment wasn't made today it was going to court.  Then my wife messaged me saying they called her as well for me.  Can't understand who they day they are with it sounds like cold stew lol.

Yes they call and threaten you which is illegal . It is collection agency and the next time they call I will call Sheriff department  . And since my Dad is a federal judge I will have him look into it. I have one recording of them and how they say we will  find you. So if this page is them reading this . I will file charges you cannot threaten people

I got this same call, saying they were looking for an individual (not my name) and the next step would be to file charges with local authorities.  What the heck?  I don't even know a person by the name they are searching for.

Happened here too about 9:30 am. I contacted my attorney.   I'm sure this won't be happening again.

The number used traces to NY. Yes it is completely illegal to threaten any one in collections.

I got the same call this morning just a few minutes ago. I have been getting calls like this in the past few months. I worked as an I.T. contractor for the V.A. Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. After being there a couple of months, I found out that Office of Personal Management (OPM) had data breach and a lot of federal employees and contractors personal information had been dumped for everyone to look at. At first, I thought they were legit. This was because I do have a lot of debt. However, I found out later they were scammers. Here is a visual voicemail of what this recent call was about:

"Hello I'm calling in regards to a formal complaint that has been filed. It was the one David question. If you have any information that can lead to the whereabouts of this individual. Please contact us immediately at 855-593-2476. Again 855-593-2476 or press any key on your dial pad to be connected immediately. Our next step will be following the necessary paperwork with the local County Court. Thank you for your cooperation."

My device visual voice mail had issues detecting my last name. It seems as if this is going to be a never ending ordeal getting voicemails like this. I wish I knew what I could do to stop these scammers permanently. I already made the mistake of paying the last scammers off and it resulted in me losing $2,000!!!! That was money I could have had in my account that would have helped get me by. I'm posting this here so other people who may be having this same issue can learn from my mistake. Research the number on google or some other search engine before calling. If there is no information on the number, don't respond.

Call them back ask them to have your name removed and that you had contacted an attorney. If if it true to be an agency of some kind collecting a debt. Sending you threatening messages and using the court system in order to collect, is entirely illegal.

Just got the same call as everyone else of basically being threaten and intintimdated ... These people are treacherous and will stop at nothing to take innocence people hard earned money. This should  definitely be illegal but one day they will scam the wrong person who will hunt them down like the menace of society they are. Hey you crooks get a real job like the rest of the world !!!

Call blocker might be of some help.  Also don't pick up on numbers you do not recognize, or where there are caller IDs that seem odd.  Or where there is no caller ID.

You might consider sending them a cease and desist letter, but no one knows where they are located.  It is unlikely they will give you a physical address if you asked them.

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.  Tell 'em  no scammy debt collector is going to push you around.

You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

Call threatened to take me to court if I don't pay 300.00 today

Said I owed 520 and I took the loan out 2012. I wasn't even 18 yet or graduated high school

I just listened to a voicemail I got from this number on January 11, 2016. I don't have any outstanding debt that would merit this call and the vagueness of their next actions. The message I received is the same as everyone else who posted. I'm tending to believe that the name and numbers were acquired from someone else because the message uses a name I haven't gone by in over six years. Definitely a hoax/scam.

Keep getting calls from this number and many others reporting legal action needed. refused to send me something in the mail and laughed when I said I was contacting police to file harassment charges. Call 5-10x a day leaving same automated message. SCAM

They told me the call was in regards to a loan I took out.  I looked at my credit report and the loan agency they are speaking of is not even on my credit report.  I also looked up the company they said they were calling on behalf of and the company doesn't even exist.  I called the number back and talked to someone.  I got really vocal with the guy on the phone and told him off.  They have not called me back since and it's been several months and I have no court summons.  It's a scam and they are trying to manipulate good people and steal from them.  They will get whats coming to them.  All it takes is to call the wrong person who can pinpoint where they are and see ya!
