I was told that they were representing someone who is claiming I'm involved in a fraud case.  They threatened to deliver a subpoena to my work and notify Human Resources.  It's about an alleged line of credit opened in 2007.

I received a similar phone call. This call was from Sara Matthews. She said I cheated a court summons and was now involved in a fraud case. She threatened to send a subpoena to my residence or work. She also stated she was going to contact Human Resources...

Wow this woman needs to have someone rewrite here script.  Someone with a brain.  "cheated a court summons"  A court summons is just that, an order to appear at a hearing on a particular day, judge, courtroom and matter.  How do you cheat it?
"was now involved in a fraud case"  That's a heck of a stretch to go from cheating to fraud. "subpoena"  generally these are issued for you to appear in court to testify.  Since you already "cheated" one, why would they send another one? "contact Human Resources.."  About what? They have no legal powers.  Please note that these all all violations of the FDCPA and thius person is doing a really poor job of trying to scam you out of money.

My personal favorite is still "Your social security number is on hold". Good thing I don't have a party line. Everyone would know. Oh! The shame. Bad card! bad!

Don't forget that after they put it on hold they file charges against it.  That poor SS# must be so embarrassed when it hits the papers that it was arrested.

The number is from an ERS company.

I was also contacted by this company and at first I too thought it was a scam until 2 days after I received the call the sheriff showed up to my job with a summons to appear in court for pending fraud. I now have to take off work and go deal with court in a completely different county for something that happened 2 years ago. Just a word of advice its def not a scam I thought the same thing until it happened to me

These guys are total scammers.  Don't be fooled by "Amanda" coming on here.   Record every conversation, remember they have to follow the law and they obviously do not.
