I also received a call from Michael Salvatore he informed me that he was the main arbitrator and that I committed bank fraud; I informed him that I have NEVER opened up a bank account with false information.  He then started to say that he will be submitting my information over to the county I live in, I told him better yet send the information to my attorney. He was very rude; I told him that any information that you have will need to be sending to my attorney in writing.  I informed that he do not have my permission to contact me at work or home and any verbal communication from this point will be treated as harassment.   He then hung up the phone

This is a call from an offshore collection agency that completely ignores the collection laws in all the States and will threaten you with law suits, court suits, prosecution for fraud, etc etc. One even told me he was waiting on the courthouse steps and would hand over the file to the prosecuting attorney unless I sent him a Western Union wire for $__________.  I asked him where he was and I would meet him there so we can do it together. He hung up.

There is nothing the U.S. authorities can do about it except enact laws that limit who creditors can sell their delinquent loans/receivables to. They only use the telephone and fax and email because if they were caught using these collection tactics in person at your door they would be jailed in many States.

I received a call when I was sleeping yesterday and got a voicemail stating that this is Tom Landry from the invesigations fraud unit and he gave my info last 4 of my ssn, dob, and drivers license number.  He then stated that it was very important that I get in touch with him along with my criminal lawyer.  I called him back and he started giving me all this federal 18 fraud law and was talking to fast for me to understand.  I asked him three times what company he was with and the first two times he said he was with the invesigations unit and the third time he told me he was with the federal burearu of finance.  He then said that a Mr. Lipski who is a courier was coming to my apartment to give mea summons and that I was to go with him to the courthouse with my criminal laywer and that he needed me to pay him within the hour in order for him to stop the summoms.  During the entire call he tried to get me to pay on this past due payday loan I did online, I told him I was not able to pay since I just paid my rent.  He then said to go ahead and have my rent go overdraft in my account so that I can pay him, I told him no I was not going to do that.  I contacted a friend of mine who is a criminal detective in my county and he said that he has heard of no such thing, told me to report them to the BBB.  I called back to get the company name was given the name real fast and when I asked them repeat it they put me on hold.  I called the US Tresury dept to see if I had any public debt on my SSN was told no.  I called my local courthouse to see if I had any summons on me; I was told that county court did not do debt collections was transfered to district and was told I do not have any summons on my name.  I was then called later that night and Tom's (whose name miraculously changed to John) secretary stating she was calling from ASB and associates and was calling to see if there was any type of arrangement that could be made before he turned in his judgement today.  So far I have looked up everything I can about this company and was not able to find anything about fraud investigations unit.  I was so scared about being summoned and arrested that it took me an hour to process all this info; but by the time I processed this info it all started to sound like a debt collection agency using inappropriate tactics to get me to pay.

I got a call from them today but it went to voicemail stating that "we're calling with the firm of AFB and Associates.  Please have either you or your legal representative return this call.  Our phone number is 877-771-9170 and the "case number" is XXXXX"...this is a crock of shyt!  The "case number" is an account number and more than likely is a debt that I owe...debts are civil matters, not criminal matter unless you do indeed commit a criminal act (in which case, you would not be contacted via phone and asked for money).  The moment you contact them and acknowledge who you are and the debt itself, the statute of limitations begins or starts all over again.  I put that number on my blocked call list and moved on...noone can come to your job (or home) and arrest you for a debt like this.  I repeat, you cannot be arrested for non-criminal acts.

I freaked out when they called at my work saying they were sending out a process server (I could get fired for this) from a "supposed" payday loan I took out 11/2010 from someplace called Payday One. Said I commeted check fraud & that I would go to court. She said the initial loan was for $500 and then put me on hold to see if she could get them to settle for this amount. They agreed to 2 payments of $250 and waive all the fees and interest. I went ahead and did this. Now what do I do? I don't recall the loan, but they did have my info and names of friends. They said they tried to send me a certified letter to my address (I never received this)...HELP! (ph # was 855-266-1256) called themselves Progressive Mediation Group

This is crazy! The same guy just called me. He left a voicemail and the same name you stated. I just googled the # he called from and pulled up these complaints. Debt collectors will say anything to get you to pay. He said pretty much everything you said.

Just got a phone call from a woman from this agency. Possibly from a debt collection agency. Really freaked me out until I saw this thread about the phone number! Who in America doesn't have debts right now?? Are they arresting everyone in the United States?? Flipping [***] and crooks. I have bounty hunters and police officers that have run backround checks on me because of my job and that I coerce with regularly. Don't you think they would have told me if something illegal or some other type of legal issue had popped up? Just saying I don't believe this for a second. And the fact that they have the last four digits of my social security number really worries me. THIS is what is wrong with the world. Ugh...

Debt is Civil Court NOT Criminal Court. No one is going to arrest anyone for a civil matter. Debt collectors can however TRY to sue you in civil court and can win and receive a judgement against you IF you ignor them. Be cool with these jerks, find out who they are and get an address where to send the payment.  Don't let them demand that you pay them thru Western Union, DEMAND an address.  DO NOT admit to the debt, just get their information.
If that is possible to get this information, then you can send them a cease and desist letter.  You can google "cease and desist" and a bunch of stuff will come up online that you can copy.  Send it to them registered.

Got a call from these jerks trying to collect on a payday loan.  I told him that I didn't owe them any money and that many months before that company was issued a cease and desist letter.  Each call is considered harrassment.  He said that they were filing a lawsuit against me on Wednesday.  I said I will countersue for harrassment and to quit calling.  Then he started getting rude.  I told him to F*** off and hung up.  He called right back.  I screamed F***  OFF!!!!! and hung up on him again.  He called 4 more times, I just kept hanging up.  No legitimate collector acts that way.  Payday loans are unscrupulous (sp) with your information.  Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way.  I think (can't prove but it makes sense) that they sell your info to whomever will buy it for more $$$.  That's how the scam artists get away with it.  Just ignore them, they eventually move on.  If you are really concerned, tell them that you are recording the call.  Make sure that you have a recording device going when you say this part.  At that point, they either hang up or they get worse.  If they ever really tried to sue,  this would blow their case out of the water...you would never have to worry about debt again.
