- Sue| 6 repliesReceived threatening call stating "Yes XXXX this is officer Meeks and I am trying to get in contact with you.
You have some legal documents that we're trying to get issue to you. We do have a valid home address. Please contact the issuing agency. That number reads 855-703-4633. There's a case number case number should read XXX-XXXX. Extremely important. Please contact them immediately. Thank you." The call came in on a local number that appears to be related to the county I live in. This is the first time I am hearing of any case. Any advise? - samantha replies to Suesame thing that happened to my sister yesterday can ask what county and state you are in.
- CWG40 replies to Sue| 3 repliesMost likely a debt scamming operation of some kind. This "Officer Meeks" has a history of calling people about questionable or non-existent debts. If you call that number you get something called "Morrison and Rosenthal legal offices". So far as I know there is no such company. Why is this character calling himself "Officer" if he's working for a legal firm of some kind? (Assuming it IS a legal firm and not just a group of debt collectors).
Personally I believe this "Officer Meeks" is calling from another company called RS and Associates. At one time they were located in Rancho Cucumonga CA. Operated out of a mail drop in a mall.
Don't call them back. Don't give them any information. These people are basically debt scammers.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them.
If you can find a precise location. - samantha replies to CWG40| 2 repliesWhat should the debt letter say
- CWG40 replies to samantha| 1 replyDebt Validation Letter
From: § 809. Validation of debts [15 USC 1692g] Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
Debt collectors are required within 5 days of the initial communication with the debtor to send the debtor a written notice containing --
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within 30 days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the 30-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer's written request within the 30 day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor.
If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period:
That the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.
The failure of a consumer to dispute the validity of a debt under this section may not be construed by any court as an admission of liability by the consumer.

If the debt collector calls you on the phone make sure you request a written notice in compliance with Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. (debt validation letter). Of course they won’t do this, so you have to send them a letter by US mail. A letter to debt collector should be by certified mail. Return receipt requested. Assuming of course you can get a valid address. Many times they will not give you one.
All YOUR letter to the debt collector has to say is, "that in compliance with the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, you are requesting a debt validation letter concerning the debt they are calling you on". The debt validation letter to you has to include all the above information. Like I say, few debt collectors will do this. They will most likely argue with you and continue with baseless threats. If they do, just block their calls and ignore them. Report them .

- MelissaI found this thread from doing a google search for "Morrison and Rosenthal" as it was mentioned above, although it was a different phone number I was asked to call. They were looking for someone I know but has never lived here and I haven't even spoken to in years, so I called back to ask to be removed from their call list. The man asked if I knew this person, and I told him yes but that they didn't live here so I wanted my number removed; he ignored me and asked a personal question about this person. I told him that I didn't think that was any of his business and that I wasn't going to answer unless I knew what this was about. He then proceeded to get rude and start yelling at me about how he couldn't give me any information and that this was a law office and that I was just a third party and if I wasn't going to give him any information, I shouldn't be calling him! Then as I was trying to tell him that THEY shouldn't be calling ME, he just hung up. I think this is probably a debt collector of some sort, with anger issues!
- Caller: Morrison and Rosenthal? supposedly
- annI found this thread from doing a google search for "Morrison and Rosenthal. I recently got a call from this company wanting to verify my address because they sent something to my address and it was un deliverable. They claim to be a " delivery company " that had legal documents for me. They gave me a 866-243-7211 phone number and a case # . They said there company name was MNR Legal. The call was made to me from a Residence # name R Preciado.
Sounds weird to me!!- Caller: MNR Legal Aka Morrison and Rosenthal
- EsoxReceived a call that I owed money on a past due credit card. Debt was $989, but it had to be settled by end of the day or I would be served legal papers for a law suit. However, if I could pay $650 by wire transfer within next 3 hours the debt would be cleared. A document confirming that was sent by email. Address of M&R legal was 14070 Hesperia Road, Victorville, CA. Mapquest satellite view shows this as as empty lot and Google street view as a parking lot for a convenience store.

- AnonI got a call today from a private number, which I did not answer. When I listened to the voicemail it was a man claiming to be "Chris Griffin (erm from Family Guy?) the process server for the county that I live in. I live in a very small area and we only have one process server in our county and he just happens to be my neighbor, his name is definitely not Chris Griffin, not even close actually: Red flag #1. So this "Chris Griffin" guy says that he has some legal documentation with my name attached and he suggests I call the firm who is taking legal action against me immediately at an 866 number. I call the number and talk to a man named "Ed" (who apparently has no last name) with "Morrison and Rosenthal Legal". This Ed guy said that I was being sued for a balance on a credit card accoubt that I have not used or even had open in 4 years. He said I owed x amount of money but if I paid almost $900 today it would wipe everything clean. He gave me an hour to come up with this money. After I got off the phone I called my husband and told him what was going on and he then proceeded to call "Ed" himself. Ed had no problem discussing me or my supposed "case" with my husband (whose name was nowhere on the card or the account in question). Professionals do not discuss anything with anyone who is not asoiciated with the case they are working on: Red flag #2. I have researched the phone number I was given and the name of the company all evening and have come up with nothing but negative things, they are also not listed with the Better Business Bureau. Do not fall into these peoples trap! They might talk to you about real accounts but they're nothing but fraudulent scum bags trying to rip you off!

- Richard replies to albertPlease do not trust them. I also got the phone call and tell me I owe $989.42 to HSBC bank. They told me I had made 2 payment in 2011. Also they told me I have to pay full by noon, otherwise my case will be sent to San Bernardino County court. I also asked if you send me any notice before. They said they did and the mail never be returned. That means I got the mail. Thanks for above notice. I won't reply to them at all. They gave me the toll number is 888-503-1044. Please do not believe what they tell you.
- JayMy wife recived a call from these scammers today claiming she owes money to us bank from 2009. They left her a message saying to call them back immediately and when she did they told she had 2 hours to pay them $400 or else they would be taking her to court. My wife gave me the number and I called and spoke to "Ed Trexler" and told him my sister is an attorney here in California (she really is) and he said he would call me back in 30 minutes, we hung up and I decided to look up this law firm Morrison and rosenthal and came across this post. I gave him a call back and told him I knew he was a debt scammer and I would be reporting him to the police for extortion and to the BBB. I told him to never contact me or my wife again. He then asked for my name and I told him I would not give him any information (did he really think I would after I just told him I knew he was a scammer?) he must be crazy. He then hung up on me. I don't think I'll be hearing from him again. This is the number he called my wife from 866-260-6733 beware!! And don't give him any information!
- NoFool| 2 repliesMy boyfriend received a call this morning from a "Marcus Thompson", claiming to be from "Morrison and Rosenthal Law Offices". He said my boyfriend had a debt for overdraft fees with the US bank of 980 dollars, and that he had two hours to pay the debt so that the case wouldnt be taken to court. He even gave my boyfriend a case number, and said that if he didnt pay that they would take the case to court and be charged lawyer fees as well. After reading through what others have put on here im certain this is a SCAM!!...Do not be fooled by their legitimate sounding prompt service when you call the supposedly law firm number. These people are a bunch of scumbags, and im very surprised the FBI has not put a stop to them. I wonder how many they have fooled and taken their hard earned money.

The place where I work has already told me that I would be fired if I did that. The account was a HSBC account I had $230 on it about 7 years ago and when I looked at my credit report the case had been closed and settled. I called the number given and spoken to a guy named ED and he said that if the case would go to court and cost me around $3000. He said I can avoid the court date buy paying $900 with in the next 2 hours.

Is there anyone i can call to get my money back they made me send in cashier checks can i call the police or fbi to try and recover my money? Please help Me.
- CWG40 replies to Me meTotal scam. John Meek is a scammer. And that's most likely not his real name. No one is going to court. These people rely basically on threats to scare money out of you. Don't fall for it. Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you CANNOT be arrested for it.
