Century Credit

Received a robocall about collecting a debt.  No debts outstanding, but called back anyway.  Rep asked for last four digits of my SSN "to protect my privacy".  

After sparring for a few minutes, it was clear that the purpose of the call was to collect the last four digits of my SSN and whatever else they could get out of me.  They had a name, phone number and address and that was it.  Be very careful.  

sunday afternoon - received robocall from this no about collecting a debt - we have none so didn't return call - figured anyone legit trying to would id themselves and have also heard about some scammers using 855 numbers to connect with people and run up huge long distance out of the country bills although the number LOOKS as if it is a toll-free number. After reading the above call am glad we didn't answer regardless.

Call my phone didn't leave a message the call came in around 500 pm,, if they wanted something they should have left a message, I don't own no debt, so stop calling, I'm also on the do not call list.

I also received a debt collection call from this number, will block this number to avoid its repeating bothering.

More likely the rep was asking for what was already in the account file. The "privacy protection" line is plausible, as debt collectors are sued easily for discussing debts with non-debtors. SSN is a commonly requested identifier. You're not obliged to comply, and there are less invasive ways to confirm you are or are not the hunted party.

You don't need a valid debt or a derogatory trade line on your credit reports to be hassled by debt collectors. They call third parties to alleged debtors all the time for permitted skip tracing purposes, or often pretending it's a trace to annoy and shame an intended target whose location is already known.

The collector is not required to disclose its business name when the caller isn't yet sure who is speaking. The mystery is imposed by the FDCPA, which seeks to preserve privacy but creates side effects of annoying Mexican Standoffs with people naturally suspicious of strange callers.

The federal Do-Not-Call registry exists to help enforce the Telemarketing Sales Rule. Please note the operative term ''marketing''. A debt collector is not a sales person and is therefore not covered. The few remaining state lists share this limitation. As already stated, this agency could be trying to locate someone else, or else feigning that search. You should be getting its mail pretty soon if you're the target. If not, my advice to "not me" cases is found here:

Called on a Sunday.  No msg left

Keep receiving call from debt collectors; this is one in a series.  Sometimes they have asked for Robin; I am not Robin nor do I know anybody who is Robin.   Called this number and they would not answer; stated they were too busy.   Left my name and looking back I do not believe I should have done this.  Suspect it is a scam for information or they have been scammed by this Robin person.   If they lend money without proper verification I do not feel sorry for them; proper verification is their responsibility.

I received a robo call from this number and knowing I owe no debt, I called back because a person who previously had our number had lots of debt.  Much to my surprise they were trying to reach my son who is 26 years old.  They were very nice and said they would remove my number from their call list since he doesn't live here anymore.  They provided me with the gentleman that he needed to speak with and a direct line.  I told them I would get a message to my son.  They did not ask me for any personal information or SS# type things.. it was a legit call.

3rd time they have called since I asked them NOT to, I do not know who the person is they're trying to contact but he doesn't live here. Dude was very rude when I then told him not to call again or I would take legal action if they called again. He said they have the right to contact this guy, I agreed they did, but they don't have the right to call MY phone to contact him, and I have NO duty to pass messages to this guy either, unless they want to pay me to do their job.

MSG stating that the irs was after me, call immediately....

Calls here about once a day.

Robocalled me on Saturday while out Grocery Shopping and had a number to call back Monday - Friday.  Left message because I thought it might be for Century Link. Checked my account and nothing owed.  Only thing possible is a dead router I sent back 2 months ago.  Called back again first thing Monday morning.  I dialed 0 for the operator told all operators are busy and left cell number.  After reading this I hope they don't call back but if they do I will be prepared.

Received a robo call today from Century credit. Tried to return call but got music. I am debt free and have had this phone number forover 25 years.

I did a random search on Google for puppy training and have been inundated with phone calls.  I did not leave my phone number with anyone and find it ridiculous that I have to endure unwanted calls.

DEBT COLLECTOR  I have no debt so they are wasting thier time calling.
