This number belongs to RevCrest. It is a collection agency and like Roger, they do work with you.  If you avoid them, they will submit a legal document to garnish your wages (as this happened to me). Unless someone used your SSN to take out student loans...then you should give them your time. I work for a university and they had no choice by law, then to garnish my wages from the letter received.

    Collection company for student loans.
They would not tell me who they were or why they were calling.
They would not even say what the general subject of the call was about. They of course wanted all my personal information. I hung up on them and researched their number.
If they want to talk about student loans, they should mention that the call is regarding student loans.
All they did was let me know to move my bank account to another bank asap to prevent losing my rent money. I am disabled at the present time and cannot pay. They do not want to hear that. I have been lied to a half dozen times by these shady collectors. I will not talk to anyone who cannot state what the call is about.

No one can garnish your wages without first suing you, serving papers on you, and then getting a judgment against you.  Anyone who says differently is lying and violating federal law! As an Atty, I should know!

Revcrest does not have a contract with the Dept. of Education to collect student loans.

Not much on them at this time they have only been stealing money for 2 years.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

This # calls me once a day, when I answer they hold the line opened and then hang up! Guess it's a good thing because I've polished up on some very colorful words for them!
