- annoyed yxu| 1 replyThis showed up as a "forwarded call" on my cell phone which was the first baffling thing. I don't have any other numbers forwarding to my cell.
The caller left a message but it was completely incomprehensible; very static-y and garbled.
I called the number and after several rings a woman picked up and said "Good morning, NRC." I told her I had the wrong number and hung up.
Googling NRC didn't really turn up much other than the National Research Council of Canada, but I'm not convinced the call came from them as the woman only answered in English (I would expect at least a "bonjour" from a government agency) and I couldn't find a reference to this phone number on their website.- Caller: NRC
- MerpJust received a call that did not identify themselves telling me to call them at the same number to keep my name in good standing...
- er... replies to Ranger| 1 replythis fukin number called many times.....they asked me to send a hunderd dollars to their account....what the fuk!!! I cant even find this number or this company online...
- Tom| 4 repliesGot a phone call today with a prerecorded message saying to call back this number to keep my credit in good standing. I returned the call and this woman answered "NRC" She asked me for my name and then told me I owe 79.00. I then asked if it was Zellers and she responded saying yes. I told her it has already been dealt with. She then responded saying they just got this on the 4th of MARCH so NO it hasn't been dealt with. She was very rude and then asked if I was going to pay it and if I don't legal proceedings will begin. I said go ahead. Then she hung up on me after saying govern myself accordingly! I went ahead and called HBC Credit to find out if this was valid. HBC had no information on me. He checked my name, address, account number, telephone number and came up with nothing. The people at NRC offer no information and are very rude if they don't get their way. I would like to be able to block them and not be harrased anymore. $79.00 dollars is nothing to me and if I OWE it then there would be no problem paying it. However if the company I apparently owe the money to has no information about it then it causes concern on my part. WARNING BELLS are going off!

- HeatherI got a call from them and they told me I owed 196$ to the Bay from over 4 years ago. I asked them for any details on the purchase and they failed to provide any. They told me it was irrelevant and it was too far back to track. I'm not a person of bad credit and I've payed all my bills and loans so when I received this call,I was very baffled. When I called them back to get more information on my dues, they didn't even ask me to identify myself or give any proof of who I am. Big scams, do not give any information to them.

- stupidly apply HBC card| 1 replyI received their call and paid 59.81 to them :(
Because i know I had owning a mount of money from The Bay. It hurt my credit already, like 2 yrs ago, but I checked my profile of equifax, which said that account of HBC is been written-off. I don't really understand why I have to pay that so I called The Bay, they told me there is no record of mine in their system. NRC agent which i speak with explained that my account is no longer belong The Bay, because The Bay sold my account to them :& sounds really CHIAO I know.
Same like you guys, I asked them to give me some detail of my account but they failed. WELLLLLLL.. 60 bucks not a big mount of money. Anyway I won't be stupid again to apply HBC card never ever.
They will send me a confirm bill about this payment. I will see then.- Caller: NRC

NRC National Recovery Center collection agency with very rude and belligerent employee's.
They leave messages such as, We have some very good news for you about your account.
Please call us back to see what your good news is
Which is a lie cus when you call to find out who they are let alone what the good news is...they tell you they are a collection agency and you have x amount of hours to pay up or go to court. NO room for explanation on the situation, just rude comments such as ... when I tried to tell the guy that I am a full time student and can not pay the amount he was asking, his comment was, "are you kidding me here? You must be kidding, right? You are a grown woman and someone is paying your rent..so miss your rent payment in order to clear this up. If you do not pay this bill today. You have until 3 pm today to pay or go to court and if we take you to court then you can kiss your job or any thoughts of getting another job good bye, because when your name goes into collections you are a credit risk and nooooo employer will hire you. Then he hung up on me.- Caller: NRC - National Recovery Center

- Diane replies to TomI have the same problem only difference is the amout... mine is 54.79 $ Took the same steps you did. HBC has nothing on me what so ever. HBC asked me to call that 1-855-855-1944 again and aske them to give me the account # they have , so far they haven't called me back with an account # but they are still calling leaving messages for me to call they back....
- What Gov't agency....?| 1 replyThis number has been calling to my home number and demanded to talk about clearing up your good standings. What bad standings? There is none here.
When I called back. There is no indication of a government collection agency rather than a rude service personnel on the other line saying to watch your good standings.
I don't know about those who are gullible to these things. But this is simply a criminal activity that needs to be dealt with.
No government workers would respond to you so rudely. Even a collection agency!- Caller: NCS.

- aggravated| 1 replytired of this call. I have no debts to anyone!
- AnnoyedI got the call from these fools today for the first time ever, on my cell phone I might add, which is a private number.. saying that they have tried to call me numerous times and been unsuccessful. Nice try? No company name left, only a number to call back on, saying if I wanted to keep my good standing, I would call them back. No real person either, it was all automated. I don't owe zellers anything (just going by the posts above), we don't even have one here. So I'm not going to run up my cell bill to call back a company that can't even leave their damn name on my voicemail. From what I can see, this is a scam.

- Some tips for you| 2 repliesI have been getting these messages for a couple days now. its not really a scam, just some really questionable tactics. Read all your comments, and decided to call them back. They told me I had a charge on an HBC card that was owing. I don't even remember what the amount was, and I don't really care.
In my case the conversation stopped after the first item below: they had the wrong person entirely, and I refused to give them my name until they identified the debt, and the debtor. In general I follow these step with debt collectors. (I have a common name and i am misidentified a lot)
First thing: Tell them that they will need to prove the debt. be firm, you won't pay anything until you see a signed receipt. (even if you do owe the money this will likely cause them to offer you a much smaller settlement because its not worth their effort)
Second thing: tell them that all communication must now go through postal mail and you will not accept any telephone communication from them. Again be firm. they will lie, and bluster, but it is your right to require this.
Last: if they actually do come through and show you a reciept. offer them a lower amount. 10 - 20% of the value should be acceptable to them. (they buy these debts at about 3-5 cents on the dollar)- Caller: NRC

- MandyThis morning I received 4 calls within 4 minutes from this 855-855-1944 number.
No messages were left on my voicemail.
I saw on here that other people had said it was maybe for HBC.
I called HBC and they have NO record of me ever owing an outstanding balance. Probably because I never had a HBC credit card.
I called TransUnion Canada to review my credit report and to see if I had any outstanding debts to anyone, and after they researched my name and info, they said that I do not owe anything to anyone. And they show no record of me EVER having an HBC credit card.
He went through my entire credit history with me and said I owe nothing.
The rep at TransUnion said this sounds like a scam from NRC.
They said that if I truly owed any sort of outstanding balance, they would be able to see it, no matter how old it might be.- Caller: 855-855-1944
- IvetaI got calls from that stupid number all the time, especially in early mornings. I know is scam!
So annoying. Can they shut up. - mooseI keep getting pre recorded messages that I need to call back due to an.unpaid debt. I talked to them and gave a name associated to my cell. Told them that the number now belongs to me and to stop harassing me. Said they'd take number off their lists but they keep calling. Next one I'm complaining to the crtc.
