    Received an unknown call. I did not answer. A message was left by Scott Ryan stating that he had given me numerous chances to take care of this matter (don't know what he is talking about) and since he received no response he will be attempting to serve me with the documents at my place of employment or my residence. He told me to contact the plantiff at the above phone #. What the hell is this?

    I received a call from an unknown number and didn't answer as I was at work from Dean Garrett and it was the same scenario as trixie above.  He attempted to give me a chance to talk with him and since I didn't answer he would be coming to my job or home serve papers.

    I too received a call  at work telling me to call 855-861-2258 that he was trying to set up an appointment with me to serve me legal paperwork regarding a check that was written on my account.  I have not had a back account for two years and my work number certainly would not have been on any check that I wrote. Has anyone had any follow-up from the phone calls?

    Rec. call on answering machine, saying there was a civil suit against me. I looked up Miller Davis and Peoples online. They seem to be a scam, using ph#855-268-4195 , 855-268-4306. Haven't called back but will,and then will  contact the BBB.

    I just received a call stating there was a civil case against me. I called the number back and a Christen Greene said, "I have some bad news for you. You owe our client $1550 in fees and interest for a magazine subscription. If you pay $275 today we can clear this up." She had an address from 11 years ago. She knew my mothers name. She also had my social security number. I told her that I hadn't ordered any magazines. She said I made 8 payments of $25 each. I told her that I didn't owe anyone and I never ordered any magazines. She said, "I'll let my client know that you will not pay. They will then decide the next step and will contact you. Good luck." Really? I called Lifelock and reported it to them. They said they have received several reports from this same phone number. He said it is a debt collector and i had nothing to worry about.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    •Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    I received a call from Christin Green  also.  She stated that I owed for magazines.  She had my ss number also, and the address I had not lived at for 10 years.  She said they were sold 7 years ago.  That I had paid over $400.00 and I needed to pay the rest that was due, in the amount of $279.50.  She would settle for $200.00 on the account.  I talked with my friend and she told me not to pay for it and to talk with our police officers.  They told me not to answer the calls any more and not to worry about it.  So every one beware and do not give them any information about your current banking information or any thing.  IT IS A SCAM>>>>>>

    I received a threatening phone call from 855-861-2258 also they said they had sent me multiple mailings none of which I have received in the mail when asked for more information they would not provide me with any.  They stated that they would take my asking questions as a refusal to pay and it would cost me over 1000.00 and they would garnish my wages.  I don't even know who to contact over this. Truly do not have 2 nickels to rub together let alone pay whomever these people are any money.  Anybody got any suggestions ?

    I just got a call from this number 855-861-2258 as well, Kristen Green with Miller Davis and Peoples advising me of a case number and to notify me of my direct involvement in a potential civil case in her office. No idea how she got my first and last name, but I hope she likes my voicemail because she will never hear from me directly.

    I just received a call from this number today as well stating that I subscribed an ordered magazines and that I had a legal contract with them an that I made two payments of 49.95 which I didn't make . An she said I made the order back in 1994 and I was still in high school and then she said it was 7years ago and that if I tried to take to civil court that I would lose my case and I would be left with paying the full amount which was over 1000$ dollars I asked what the name of the magazine was and company and she would not tell me said bit was only on a need to know basis. Sed my case would be settled if I made 3 payments of 91.15$ . So she is going to call me tomorrow (10-31-14) to get my debit or credit card number. Any helpful suggestions would b nice. The number I received the call from was 1-855-861-2258.

    Caller said I had to pay 730 dollars today or they will move forward with legal action. They knew my social and the red flag was that this transaction was in 2013 in my maiden name. I was married in 2013. I asked for document to be sent to my house with reference number and they said it was too late for that. I called the attorney general office to verify this debt and came out to be fraudulent.
