- VG. Charbonneau| 3 repliesThis is an outfit from India who does blind calls. They will claim that your computer is infected with a virus. They will offer to do a check on your computer giving them access. Not a good idea!! They claim that they are providing you a service. Eventually the notion that there is a cost for this will come up. Please do not take the bait!!!
This outfit is a sham and they do not respect no call lists..... - Diane| 2 repliesI had a call Wednesday morning from that number. They said they were a company, Ceylon Tech, working for Microsoft and when I asked how did they find me, they showed me that my computer was not working properly and that most Microsoft messages did not get to me. I saw the sign "desactivated" next to a great quantity of messages that Microsoft had sent me in the past. I was scared but the technician convince me that it would be too bad not to repair. Usually I do not answer those calls by yesterday they had me and I am very mad about it. (I am French speaking so I have a hard time to explain myself)
They offered me a one year service for $159.99 or $139.99 (I am not sure of the exact amount) I gave them my Visa Card number and the 3 numbers in the back of my card (I usually never do that).
This afternoon, I tried to open my mail in Hotmail.com and I had no access to my mail. I phone that number 855-888-5881 and I was connected with a technician who was in India (I had a very hard time to understand him) and he came into my p.c. and reinstalled my hotmail and it is working for now.
I am 71 years old and it is the first time in my life that something like this happens. I hope that my resumee will help others not to be bothered with those people. Thank you for reading me.- Caller: Ceylon Tech
- DanielMy dad just received the same call a Diane, fortunately my dad does not trust anybody that call and even worst when he ask this "technician" to send him an email with instructions on how to do whatever he wants him to do and the technician said that they do not send email because the computer can die while they are checking their email!!!! very fishy to me!!!!
I would not give any information or do anything they ask, just hang up!- Caller: Ceylon Tech Support for Microsoft

- NancyMy dad just recieved a call from this number, and he has arranged for them to call him back, but emailed me right away.
Since I'm a tech, before he does anything with the computer, he asks me first - told him that it was a scam and he was very thankful not to have gotten scammed by these people.
I tried to call the number but there was no answer - go figure!- Caller: Microsoft
- LisaScam. This one has been around for awhile, costs people sooo much. Identity theft, viruses on their computers etc. I got the latest call on Friday while I was working. Ironically I had been having a few problems with my laptop due to a free mcafee antivirus I had downloaded ( I am with Shaw). My mom had answered the phone and they told her they were calling about the problem I had with the computer. Monica had left me her phone # to call her back. I thought, man these people must be psychic to know I had problems because I didnt tell anyone lol. I guess my mom assumed they were with Shaw and thats how they knew. Then I googled the # 855-888-5881 and saw the posts about it. Been awhile since I got calls by them, probably a couple of years. Do not fall for it, if you give them your credit card number you risk having unwanted charges on it, dont allow access to your computer unless you want a virus or a trojan.
- MichelleThis number has called the house several times today, but no one is on the other end. Reading what others have posted here, I can say I encountered the same scam of the computer virus about a year ago. I was quite assertive in wanting to know who was calling, the company name, contact phone numbers, and what sort of business they had with my computer. All answers were very vague, except that he insisted he was calling from Microsoft. When I insisted that I wanted to speak to the caller's supervisor, he gave me a number to call and hung up. I tried calling the number, wanting to complain, but the number "couldn't be completed as dialed".

SCAM - Diane| 2 repliesI just received a call from this number. 1-855-888-5891. I live in Ontario, Canada. The man with a heavy Indian accent stated that he was Nathan Smith (yeah right) and he was calling about a problem with my computer. LOL! I said *but Nathan I do not own a computer*! The thing that disturbed me the most about this call is that he knew my first and last name?? Has anyone else had their name said by these scam artists!?? I wonder where they got my name?

Y en a tu des crosseurs - Telemarketer Slammer replies to VG. CharbonneauIndia being a foreign country they are exempt from our DNCL. There is absolutely zero, nothing the government can do to stop them calling.
- Scot Syrus| 1 replyI just received a call from a lady from what appeared to be India, very thick accent, from the beginning she was promting me to get on my computer and fix some blocks that were detected on my computer. I was home sick today and becasue of my line of work I already knew about this scam, so I figured since I was sick anyway, I would waste their time like they were wasting mine. I just kept on asking various questions about their company "Salon Taxable" until they hung up on me. Don't ever get on your computer and follow any directions anyopne is giving you unless you can be 100% sure who you are talking to.
- Caller: Salon Taxable (with microsoft)
- ciotog replies to Diane| 1 replyDiane, have you heard of a "phone book"? ;)
- saskiemomGot a call in Saskatchewan Jan 22-2013 from East Indian accented man who said he was from Ceylon computer shop. He said my computer wasn't receiving updates. I asked him to give me details as to which updates they were then he started saying systems on my computer were not working. Again I asked him what specific systems were not working. He wouldn't tell me but wanted me to look in my computer - he could help me. I knew it was a scam from the beginning and just kept challenging him to provide details. He kept going back to saying systems on my computer were not working - he had no idea how to handle these questions. The call display showed the 1-855-888-5881. I called back the next day and a woman answered "Thank you for calling Ceylon Tech". I reported this to the National Do Not Call List and hope something will happen to these scammers.

- ED| 3 repliesI just received a call (10PM) from Ceylon-Tech Support - 855-888-5881...they told me they represented Microsoft and were doing support for my computer, added they were aware of my system. When I questioned them, they had no idea of what operating system I was running. When I corrected them, they said, "Yes, you updated it." of course I hadn't! I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not opening up my computer to anyone, particularly when they make mistakes about what they are supposed to know...personally, I think this is just a scam, trying to get people who are vulnerable.
- Caller: Cylon-Tech Support
- ken replies to EDAnd you would be correct Ed. It is a scam.
