I just got a call from this #. They said I won money, they are a reputable law firm called, "Silverman Associates" and to please look them up, they would call back in 10 minutes. This is what I came up with by googling their ph. #. HA! The call was full of static and didn't sound right. I told them I was skeptical from the git-go. I asked him if he would want any money from me for this prize, he said absolutely not. According to Greg, above, that is still coming. I doubt they will call back due to my skepticism and questions posed.

I received a call on my cell phone this morning saying I had won 2nd prize in a Consumers sweepstakes.  The caller said his name is Attorney Drew and calling on behalf of Silverman and Associates.  He is going to have the company send me an email regarding the winnings.  Evidently, just a scam to verify phone numbers and email addresses.

My Grandmother received a call from a man who called himself James Drew, an attorney working with Silverman and Associates located in Morristown, NJ. He told her she was the 3rd place winner in the Publishing Clearance House Sweepstakes and that she won $500,000. He said 'they' would be arriving on Monday, March 16th, between 9 -11am but said that they needed to verify her name, address and phone number first. Despite my Grandmother be skeptical, he kept assuring her this was not a scam, she would pay nothing for her winnings but never gave her his contact phone number. After a day of talking it over with us family members, we decided to google the phone number which appeared on the caller ID - and THIS is what we found! Thank you to whoever initially posted this warning about this scam - we gotta play the LOTTO! :)

Looks like you have been trying to protect Grandma - the following list might help in that task:

    Things to believe:

    • There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.
    • If it sounds (or looks) too good to be true, it probably is.
    • You have not won big bucks from a benign benefactor, a pot of pesos from PCH, dinero from a doctor, a car from a caller, or a grant from a gracious government    ◄- ◄- ◄- ◄- ◄-
    • The tooth fairy really does not exist
    • Everything you read on the internet is not necessarily true.
    • It is illegal to ask for money for a loan or prize, before awarding the loan or prize!
    • "Free Trips" are loaded with mandatory & costly extras, and you usually must give them your card number after listening to a loooong spiel at a hotel.
    • Microsoft or a different famous software company, or one of their agents did NOT cold call you to fix your computer.
    • The moon is not made of green cheese.
    • The IRS will snailmail you, rather than phone you, if there is a problem.
    • Jackalope milk is not an aphrodisiac.
    • If you "green dot", MoneyGram or Western Union money to a scammer, the money is gone.
    • You should beware of Geeks bearing gifts, specially if the gift is a wooden horse with termites, or a statement that your computer is infected.
    • 876 is NOT your lucky number, and it will cost you money to call that area code!
    • The number you see on your Caller ID may not be the number of the person who called you!

Lottery/contest/Game show wins in the USA are taxed up front. Taxes are taken off at source, just like your paycheck. Any request for an advance fee to claim a prize, gift, loan, Government Grant, lottery win, etc. is a scam. Every time. As Slim mentioned, any request to use a cash wire transfer service (Western Union, etc.) or prepaid credit card confirms the scam.

I received a call this morning from the so called Silverman & Associates, Morristown NJ - Calvin Harris. He provided me his phone number (856) 677-8030. There is no such listing for this law firm upon researching the internet & phone directory. The phone number that he gave is a google issued phone number when I called it.

I was told during our conversation that I won $500,000 and they want to deliver a check to me  by UPS or Fedex Courier to my home. Sure! Ha  Ha.

Call from office of Benedict Silverman, Attorney for Consumer Report Sweepstakes stating I won 2nd place in contest.  I never entered a contest for Consumer Report.  They wanted to speak to my husband and I at the same time.  He wasn't home.  Stated they would call back because it was required for full disclosure to married couples because spouse is entitled to half of any winnings.

    Lots of Winners!! Not
I received a phone call from Attorney James Drew of Silverman & Associates also, I can't believe so many of us won that second prize of $500,000. I was told they would dispatch someone to my home at 9 am on March 9th to deliver the check and all the tax deductions would have been made and detailed. I told him I would be waiting at the door with baited breath.
Actually, like most people I had to go to work but lets assume they did not show up.
