I just called this number back after I received the same voicemail number.  The guy had the same thick accent.  He asked me to confirm my name and asked if I resided at an address I hadn't lived at for awhile.  He stated the IRS doesn't have the new information. I just said well I filed my taxes with my current address for the past 6 years.  He said because the IRS didn't have the correct address it wouldn't count against me.  I then just said he needed to hold on and hung up on him.

I just hung up with them also and yes a man with a very heavy thick accent answered and his name was Jeramaih James, ID 568852 gave me 1 hour to come up with $$ otherwise I would be sued by the IRS.  I was going to get some $$ to pay but after reading this I think I'm going to take my chances considering that I was a victim of Identity theft and my 2013 taxes were returned to me as someone else had already filed with my information.

Same as above- Received a voice message stating it was a final notice from the IRS and that they were suing me. I called back and spoke with a 'Rebecca Cooper'. I said I had received a call and wanted to know what was going on. She told me her name and quickly followed with an ID number. I asked what company she worked for. She told me she didn't work for a company, repeated her name and then said she works for the "Internal Revenue Service". I told her I'd like to speak to her supervisor and she said if I had any questions I could ask her and to go ahead. I said "Great, I'll ask them to your supervisor. Thanks." And was promptly hung up on.

Please people, don't respond to or entertain these types of calls. I worked in legal aide for years. Once they get your info I.e., bank info, personal info they got you. If they IRS is looking to sue anyone get will send you a letter, be it certified, or otherwise.  Believe me I have worked with many clients, particularly the elderly who were scammed by vultures and "poop on a shoe."

Total scam--these callers tend to pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community.  They are hard core Indian and Pakistani phone criminals.  IRS does not file lawsuits and does NOT initiate contact by phone. Hindi accent should be a dead giveaway.

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.   Block and ignore.   DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

I received a call from 346-229-9798.  He had a thick middle eastern/indian accent.  I answered the call to receive an automated message that the IRS was suing me.  I called back to a very angry person upset that I was asking for further information.  He said I had received two certified letters stating the lawsuit. He also informed me that a federal warrant had been issued for my arrest, and that a sheriff was on his way to my house.  I have been calling him every hour or so just to piss him off.
