a text was sent to me "you've been selected totest & keep the new ipad3 for free" WOT, stopped the internet connection, but i persisted through only to find it was a scam to receive text from them about "DEALS" @ the price of,$9.99 SCAM!!!! $$$$$$$.

Got the exact same text yesterday but knew it was a scam. Verizon recently was having third parties call me on their behalf because they wanted me to buy a new phone. I am thinking the third party sold my number. Thanks Verizon.

I think Verizon sells our numbers. I just changed plans to include more texts and data and I immediately started getting text spam. I'm going to get a prepaid phone as soon as my contract with Verizon is up. Alltel never sold or listed my number, then Verizon bought it and I started getting spammed and telemarketed.

I got the same thing. I typically don't get spam. I have been participating in text to win promotions for electronics from our local news channel. I think that's how they got my number. Not happy if the news channel or tech blogger they feature is responsible.
