- Andrea| 2 repliesI finally answered, and it is something with new insurance. When I asked to be taken off their list, they hung up. If I could hear what company they were from, I would go straight to the Better Business Buraeu. Completely unacceptable.

did not leave a message - Cynthia'Mike from Autocare America, "Mike" doesn't sound American at all, he sounds as if calling from New Deli. Don't know if this is a scam, but I think I saw a show about this company scamming people on car service warranties, sounds fishy to me. Simply better not to answer numbers you don't recognize.

- jack44They called twice, I missed the call. No message on answering machine, unavailable for name on caller ID. That always brings up a red flag, SCAM!
- Caller: unavailable
- KathyCaller ID said "Oliver Spgs TN". Answered, said hello, waited 2 minutes, and no one said anything. Hung up.
- DanielaThis number keeps calling but I was not home ,when I try to call back the phone is disconected or so.
- Christinakeeps calling my cell and leaves no VM...Sounds like a scam from what I read here...
- PaulI got this call today 11/7/14, and twice yesterday. I asked the guy for a web site today and he hung up. The same guy called me yesterday and I asked him some questions about his company and he hung up. Definitely a scam. I doubt the odds a caller from a telemarketing company would call the same person three times.
- Caller: American Auto Care
- Angry replies to cat loverCall from 865-435-4596, no one said anything.Do not want these calls.
- Jewel G. Harrell| 2 repliesI checked the number and it is an insurance company. No one answered when I answered. No calls like this should be allowed and especially on a holiday! Did they not know this is Thanksgiving, a holiday devoted to family?
- Caller: An insurance co. in Oliver Springs, TN. Name not given
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Tamianth replies to Jewel G. HarrellConsider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

E-mail: econsumerwb@ftc.gov - BrianReceived 2 calls from a telemarketer. One on Thanksgiving Day, and another one today. Both claimed to be representing American Auto Care, and immediately started asking for information on my zip code, make/model of cars, and then my home address so he could send me homeowners insurance as well.
Ripped the guy on the phone yesterday, as it was Thanksgiving. He hung up on me. Today I asked for a number where I could contact them, and he hung up on me.- Caller: American Auto Care

- DonnaReceived call today. I am in TN. There is no reason for them to call me. I am on DNC, for all the good it does.
- Kingpin| 1 replyHere's what I think based on some research I did..... debt collectors use skip tracing to find debtors and one of those techniques is called pretexting. This is where a skip tracer can be deceitful in representing who they are to get information about the debtor (ie. pretend to be giving a survey or pretend to provide them a grant, etc.). This way they can find out if the number they have for you is working and it is yours. Also, don't press any button when they tell you to hit a number on a keypad to be taken off their call list - you could be pressing a number that says you are verifying the debt is yours. Anyway, it is completely legal for them to do this as long as they do not represent that they are a government official (i.e. police, courts, etc). So they get you on the phone, verify your information and pass it on to the debt collectors who then use that information to track you down and find out if you have a job, where you live, your phone numbers, your assets etc, in case they decide you are worth taking to court.

- Bill replies to KingpinGot a call from this number 1/6/15 and we didn't answer. We have had zero debt for years.
- Joe Buckskin replies to Jewel G. HarrellReality Check: People in India don't celebrate Thanksgiving.
- Joe BuckskinWell, it's about 20 degrees below zero here today . . . so with nothing else to do, the telemarketers and scammers are out in full-force, figuring most people are either off work or inside their homes. Had 3 various phone calls today; the first from a guy who wants me to pre-plan a funeral. Living in this climate, I thought about it. Then got a scam call saying it was "IRS" and "I owe them money". Honest to God, why didn't I think of this? Then I got THIS call, asking about me purchasing an extended auto warranty. The guy was obviously calling from a scam-center in India or Pakistan. If people would just wise-up and not give these people money, it would go away. But like P.T. Barnum said, there is one born every minute.
