This is nasty collection agency. Their tactics include harrassment and intimidation. These are the kind of folks that have no problems calling your friends and neighbors at their work until they get fired, only to find out later that they have the wrong person. Then go home and get a good night's rest.

Type in "Transworld Systems Complaints" and you'll see over 80 Thousand hits. There is one Legal firm that dedicated a page to Transworld systems specifically, http://stopcollector.com/agency.php?n=transworld

Do anything you can to shake this slimy collection agency off, I promise that they will not stop calling even if they have the wrong person until legal action is brought to bare!

Unknown Caller ID from this number. NCO/TransWorld is a collection agency that attempts to collect on previously defaulted, UNSECURED debts. All bark and no bite because most of the debts that these buffons are attempting to collect on are way past the statue of limitations (for most States). Besides, if a debt is UNSECURED, then there's not single thing that they can do. DO NOT ANSWER AND NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER PAY THEM A SINGLE RED CENT!!!!!!!

This company has tried contacting me from several different numbers; sadly, my call block on my phone is now full and I can't block this one.  LOL  I've told them in the past to cease and desist yet they insist on harassing us for an old debt.  In fact, I'll have to check because this might be a debt that was discharged under Chapter 7 several years ago.  I would LOVE to be able to sue them...they are heartless jackholes.

I answered the phone and a taped voice said hello and then said goodbye and the line went dead.  I don't owe anyone money so if it is a collection agency they have the wrong number.

Is there any legal recoarse against them calling children's phone line (under 18)  Yes phone is listed under an adult's name, but the phone line is directly in the children's residence on 2nd flr of the home. (No adult access!)

Message Just says goodbye.  My kids are very upset about these calls. They are now wondering if they should just quit answering the phone or have the number changed. Since it is their personal phone line, I will let them decide; however, I am leaning to changing the number!

Isn't it time for Class Action Suit.

Time to turn over to the States Attorney or US Attorney?

I just received a call from them as well.  However, I do not answer 866 or unknown numbers.  I have a fax machine attached to my phone line, so I figure if I keep manually having the fax answer, whoever is on the other end might eventually get tired of that horrible fax buzzing noise and stop calling.

They called, I answered and someone said goodbye.  So I called them back......got a rude chick who wanted to verify my name.  I asked her what she wanted and why did she hang up on me.  She told me she is a collection agency and could do whatever she wanted.  Have no idea who or what they represent but they are out of their mind if they think I am going to waste my time talking to them.

We received a call from Transworld Systems, with a recording saying to call them back at 866-229-7834 and ask for Scott Maguire (or McGuire, etc.), regarding a debt referred for collection.  An 8-digit I.D. code was given, with instructions to give it to the agent when calling back.  I knew we didn't have any outstanding debts.  Before calling back, I checked out the Transworld Systems business name and the 866 phone number on Google and saw it was a legitimate debt collection agency.  I called the number given and got a recording that said all agents are busy, and then the call cut off abruptly.  I called again and got through the second time -- I asked for Scott, and was told he was not available but the agent who answered could help me.  He knew the number I had called from, which obviously came up on their caller I.D. system. The agent did not ask for the 8-digit I.D. code, but asked to speak to a man whose name is unknown to us.  Apparently that person had the same phone number at some time (we've had it for about 15 months).  I told the agent we don't know the person he asked for, and he said OK, they must need to update their records.  He was polite and pleasant in manner.  That's all there was to it.

If any more calls come in from this company, I'll pursue it at a higher level (if I can get an executive's phone number) to make sure we won't continue to be bothered by such calls made in error.  The company web site says they have 100 offices serving the whole country by regions, and you can pull up a toll-free number for your region, so I'd start with that. There's also a Contact page on the site with a toll-free number for customers using the debt collection services (the creditors). But there's also a section that says: "Have you received a letter from us?  Please direct any questions to the business/creditor cited in the letter.  If necessary, please call: 707-236-3910," so that could be another avenue to pursue if receiving calls (or letters) from Transworld Systems.

Everyone hates debt collectors, but they are a necessary evil -- some more "evil" than others!  I think the key to dealing with them -- even the nasty ones -- is to remain calm, pleasant, and businesslike, get all the facts and check them out to be sure the collector has accurate information, and keep a record of all contacts -- date, time, number you called or were called by, the person(s) you spoke to, and all the pertinent details discussed, including any I.D. codes, confirmation numbers, etc.  If you have a problem communicating with the agent, ask for their supervisor, or simply cut the call off (politely) and call back so you'll have a chance to talk to someone else.  It's usually better to call your creditor directly and attempt to pay the debt to them rather than to the collection agency -- if you can't pay it all, ask to work out a repayment program.  Often creditors will be quite willing to do that, or even reduce the debt or write it off completely -- though write-offs look bad on your credit history and can negatively affect your credit score, so it may be better to at least pay something.  If you want to try that route, tell the collection agency you need to speak to the creditor before discharging the debt, and ask for a name and number to call back at the collection agency when you want to speak to them again (hopefully never!).  If you work something out with your creditor and the debt collector calls again, tell them you've taken care of the debt already, directly with the creditor.  Of course, be sure to fully document your contact(s) with the creditor, too!  Get written confirmation of whatever you work out, by email, fax, or post, and make note of any checks you write or credit/debit card transactions.  You CAN fix your own debt problems if you just keep cool, act like you want to pay the debt, explain any extenuating circumstances, and ask the creditor (or debt collector, if you must deal with them) for help in setting up a repayment plan, if necessary.

    It's Transworld Collections.

Whatever you do, do NOT call them back. They don't leave messages because they don't want you to know if you call that number you are calling a collector, because almost nobody would.    The "hello - goodbye" is to verify that they have a live phone number.  Then they will really come after you.   A lot of what they try to collect is "zombie debt", which is so old it's usually uncollectible.   Watch out for them to report it to the credit bureaus as a brand new debt, too.

A previous poster said they are a necessary evil; with all due respect, I disagree; they are bloodsucking parasites.  They are nasty and try to trap, bully and badger people into giving them money to make them go away.  They are particularly predatory in this economy and they threaten and intimidate.  They once said flat out they'd have me arrested if I didn't pay something, which is just flat out illegal.  I disagree it's better to come to an agreement with them and make payments.  TW saying you owe money isn't the same as you actually owing money, and it's not up to you to prove you don't ("what can you send that PROVES you don't owe my client?").  They are the ones who have to prove you owe something, and push come to shove, their records are so poor they can't do it.  Usually all they have is a name, creditor, amount, maybe a date, and those aren't enough.  Right now they are trying to collect from me a bill that is a debt of my husband's estate, not mine, for which I'm not legally responsible (and no, I don't feel "immoral" for refusing to pay what I don't owe), and a utility bill from a house I sold 10 years ago (again, I am "trying to get away with stealing" - and BTW the debt came from a broken gas meter that was replaced with apologies by the original utility).   They even reported the estate's debt as if it was mine just because I'm executor, which still doesn't make it my own responsibility to pay.   They were the ones who paid for *that*.

No matter how much they try to push you around, you're not a bad person for (maybe) owing money, or having owed it in the past but not now, or having a name similar to someone who does, or being related to someone who owes/owed.    They're bad people for trying to collect what you don't owe.

I check my caller ID with every call I get.  If I don't know who they are, I just don't answer the phone.  If they don't leave a message, that's a good sign that they aren't legal.  It saves you a lot of grief to just not answer the phone.
