- FionaI called to find out who they were and the man who answered was very rude. He laughed at me and hung up. He wouldn't tell me the name of the company.
- EddieI rec'd a voicemail asking me to call this number. I could hardly understand what the guy was saying because he had a thick Middle-Eastern accent. I called and the same guy answered the phone and he said he was from some "bank"...probably trying to extort $$$ from me, so I laughed and hung up on him.
- fedupI also could not understand what the guy was saying on my voice mail. He had a very thick accent. I called them back and the same guy answered. He said he was from some bank, didn't understand, and proceeded to tell me- 'for security purposes to make sure he was speaking to the correct person' he wanted my 'name, account number and SS#.'
I hung up on him.- Caller: unknown
- Ricky| 1 replyGot a phishing email purportedly from HSBC to call the number. Be careful and don't fall for it!!
- j replies to RickyI just had an email saying from HSBC to call back, what are your experiences on this #?
- MikeThis is definitely HSBC Bank's online fraud number. I got the email, came here, then wasn't convinced enough so I called the number on the back of my card and they told me the number without my even having to tell it to them.
I then called the number, cleared up what they wanted cleared up, and told them that they should do something about their email (I got an email not a phone call). The sender was @hsbc.asia but the sent from line read HSBC.co.in and the body of the email said that it was on behalf of HSBC US. That's just silly. There is no easy way to verify the number.- Caller: HSBC Bank
- JustinI got this too, it is almost definitely a scam, don't believe the scammer who is trying to trick you on this website by saying otherwise!!!
NEVER, EVER, EVER call a phone number, click on a link, or send an email to someone using contact information from an email. ESPECIALLY ABOUT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!!! HSBC has a secure bank mail system, they would (or SHOULD) use that if it really is legit. - woodflyI got a voicemail ask me to call this number. I called and gave all my info, name, account number, SSN. Then I felt something is not right. So I googled this number, and saw ppl's comment here, and got really scared. I called HSBC immediately. After putting me on hold for about 5 min, they finally told me it's a valid HSBC number
- Caller: HSBC bank
- JoshI got an email asking me to contact this number about 20 minutes after I checked my online banking from a hotel. When I called the number, they only asked me to verify the last 2 digits of my SS #, they asked me no other details of my account. Apparently, they were alerted to possible fraud because they were seeing me log in from a different than usual IP address since I was traveling. Mike's advice is legitimate, as I also contacted the number on the back of my CC (1-800-975-4722) I eventually got in contact with a live person who I explained my situation to. I gave them the 866 number, at which point I was put on hold, when they came back they stated that it is in fact their fraud prevention department and they offered to transfer me there directly. Anyone who's curious about this is welcome to contact HSBC's 800 # to confirm this as well and report back here. So if anyone got a call or email like this, it could be because you're traveling or changed internet providers recently and they're seeing you come from a different IP address on the internet. The heavy accent combined with not a lot of info about this number on the internet could easily lead people to crying "scam" but the person I talked to at HSBC made it sound like I definitely needed to address this with them.
- Steve-oI received an email from the fraud dept of the HSBC Internet Banking group. The email looked legeit and it appears that the email was sent from an email server at hsbc.co.in. India. They asked me to call this number to confirm something. It would appear that HSBC outsources thier fraud call center. This call center's staff is rough at best. My guy referenced transferring the call to the "customer." When I said "Yes, you may transfer the call" I was met with silence. It wasn't until I said, "Uh, hello?" did I realize the guy was just sitting there. I didn't give any information other than to verify my name which he read to me. After a moment of prompting and me telling him to get a move on or I'm bailing, he inquired about my HSBC Internet Banking usage.
I went on a trip to Mexico and I logged into the HSBC Internet Banking site from the hotel. This is what triggered the email but I am dissappointed that they did not use the BankMail system in conjunction with an email. Bad boy HSBC, bad boy.- Caller: HSBC

- gregI received a HSBC phishing attempt asking me to call this number - thank you to whoever built this site!
- GuestBelow is the email I have got. I think I'll give a call to HSBC, but I'll call their regular phone number, not the one in the email.

----- - WOI got the same email today. Called the customer service number on back of my ATM card instead. Turned out it was legit. They just wanted to confirm a scheduled online payment. Call the customer service number anyway, they can pull out your account info and see whether the email you received was real.
- Caller: HSBC
- JonThis is absolutely not a scam, and it's too bad people are scaring everyone with this. They were just calling to verify a bill payment I had made recently.

- Dennis| 1 replyDefinitely a fraud. The email I got with this number did not even get my name right. I banked with HSBC but suspected that the number was fraud so I checked. Can't find it anywhere in the directory.
- Brad replies to DennisDue to so much conflicting info I didn't know who to believe! I went to the HSBC web site and to the "contact us" and called the main number. The darn menus are difficult to navigate to actually talk to a human! I don't remember exactly what I chose for options to actually get to a human, but the last few options were asking for internet assistance. I then asked that person if the voicemail from their fraud prevention department was legit and he gave me the same number I had been left and then transferred me to them.
I told both people at HSBC that they should list this number in an accessible place on their web site so that people can easily find the number and know they are not falling victim to a phishing scam! Until HSBC does so, I encourage you all to call HSBC as I did to verify that it is truly the number. That way you don't have to believe me over anyone else. You can hear it directly from HSBC. - SharonThis number is definitely a legit HSBC number. They called for a valid reason and it was resolved.
- Caller: HSBC
- JohnLegit. Just called to confirmed it was about my online bill payment.
- MaureenI went thru the trouble of calling the number on the back of my ATM card. Turns out there was a hold and the call coming from this # was legit. But they should have an easier way to call their fraud dept on a published #!
- DavidThis is legit. If you call this number it goes through to a person in India on there fraud security team. He had a little accent but I could understand what he was saying.
They just called to confirm an online bill payment that I sent when I was not on my home computer.
They wanted to verify if it was authentic.
I just gave them the reference number (in the e-mail), name and a few digits of SSN (not the whole thing).- Caller: HSBC
