Caller left message with an extension. I haven't verified that they are who they say they are, but it sounds legit.

I got the same phone call (supposedly Fidelity Investments) reguarding a retirement account. I returned call and had to leave message. I still need verification that they are who they say they are.

I got a similar message about an retirement account that I do not have.  It asked to leave my SS# which I did not.  They sound real, but I seriously doubt they are.  Do not leave your SS#.  Sounds like a good scam.

Received a voice message from someone named Tom Peldi or Feldi (garbled probably intentionally) claiming he is with Fidelity Investment Services. He claims he left me a message in November, 2007 (he did NOT) and now wants to give me an update????? In addition to the 1-866-260-9903 number he also left extension 2049. I did NOT return the call because the above number is NOT listed anywhere for Fidelity. I spoke with Fidelity and they say the number is bogus and likely scammers trying to steal investemnt accounts. As a policy, do NOT answer these types of calls. If you do business with Fidelity YOU CALL FIDELITY USING THE NUMBER(S) FIDELITY PROVIDES YOU. Good idea to report these calls to the security people in the named company so they can arrest and convict these crooks.

Received two messages concerning a 401k account from a person named Byron Thrusher. He left the number 866-260-9903 extension 2052. I called the customer service number listed at www.fidelity.com. I was transferred to a retirement representative and she looked up his name and number and told me that he is in fact a Fidelity Representative.

Bill,

Did you ever talk to Bryon Thrusher at this number to determine what these calls are really about??

If these are not attempts to steal your identity or maliciously attempt to raid your 401k account, then it must be a sales pitch by Fidelity to either roll your 401k over into Fidelity accounts or automatically have your required minimum withdraws from your 401k invested in Fidelity Mutual Funds (this latter so Fidelity can hang on to your money rather than have you take your withdraws elsewhere.

Received yet another message on my answering service from a person named Tom Pelley who identifies himself with Fidelity Investments and calling to update me about 401k account benefits and features. The number he leaves to call back is 1-866-260-9903 at extension 2049.

Unfortunately he calls (now a total of four times since November 2007) when I am not at the phone and leaves a message. On call back, no one answers the number but asks you to leave a message.

I receive regular news letters from Fidelity and access information at their website. The mystery here is why this persistent calling with inadequate answering service when you return calls. If legitimate, why isn't the information conveyed the way Fidelity conveys lots of information, i.e., website and quarterly newsletters????

That;s why it makes receivers of these calls suspicious about the call being a scammer OR a salesman trying to manipulate you into keeping your money with Fidelity (could be good or bad to do so!!)
