    It's Standley and Associates.  The D in Standley is necessary to look up the cases his practice has filed.

    Spoke with them regarding an old debt. A guy named Aaron Barr claimed to be with Standley and Associates.  Threating to sue me.  I am sending cease and desist letter to stop the calls and suggesting that the actual attorney office call, not some cheesy debt collector.

    Check your state's statute of limitations on debt.  In most cases, after 3 or 4 years, the debt becomes legally uncollectable.  These guys are probably one of the legions of low-life lawyers trying to intimidate people into paying on antique debt.  Are they licensed in your state?  Do they even have a bar number?  Lots of debt collectors pose as lawyers.  Until they validate the debt with written documentation and provide valid credentials, treat them like toxic waste.  Which is probably what they are.

    I too could not stand these calls and thought it was a fraud. This is a phone no. linked to a law firm. It is a courtesy call to help those who may or may not be aware that they have a claim against them. I am glad I answered their phone call. It is a serious matter, since I am the one at fault and racked up or overlooked my debt. They let me know the consequences and were very professional and assisted me in rectifying my situation. They could have taken me to court w/ out contacting me. Because of it, I was able to avoid appearing in court and save me from the embarrassment of having a subpoena served to my home or work place. Also, now I can buy my dream home without worrying about a judgment or garnishment against my SSN. Thank Mr. #$%@^&*! for the settlement and notifying me of the consequences of my ir-responsibilities of the past. I received a receipt from them after paying off my debt, SO THEIR ARE LEGIT! Everyone else: MAN UP & take care of your s**t. They are just trying to help!

    I just got a call at 8:00 tonight... I was not near my cell phone. They left a message...

    This is Josh Newcom calling on behalf of Scott Coruthers about your web page, I know it is late but we need you or your attorney to contact us tonight at 303-895-2473 case number #######. Didn't say what it was about or anything... the call came from 866-267-9647 and I didn't get a response from either number when I called back. I'll try again in the morning. I have no clue what it could be about. So now it's 1:00 in the morning, I can't sleep, and I'm wondering what the hell is going on now.

    i received a call from this number claiming to be the law offices of scott corrothers.  they gave me a different number to call back 1-866-935-2766- check out the comments under that number.  they are claiming i have a debt with a bank dating back a few years.  funny how this phone call and phone calls from 1-877-210-4453(check those posts too) started coming into my home on the same day and just 2 days after receiving a letter from my mortgage company that an employee had stolen a list of names and sold it.  my name and all my infor including ss# was on the list.

    they contacted me claiming that i owe us bank money also.  i did have an account with us bank, but i don't owe them money.  read my post below.  i never got the promised fax or call back either.  Supposedly i have a letter coming in the mail because they sent out over 60,000.  not sure what to think at this point, but i truly believe it is fraud.  don't give them any information.  make them give you all of the information.  don't pay them.  if you owe us bank then find out what us bank you are supposed to go to in order to make the payment.  did you have a loan with countrywide?  that is where my name and info was stolen from by one of their employees.

    Is the above address showing on their letterhead? If it is, you need to IMMEDIATELY dispute this debt. Send it VIA certified mail and request a return receipt:

    Dear {insert name of collector or company},

    I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

    This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

    (b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

    I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

    (1) the amount of the debt;
    (2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
    (3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
    (4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state)
    Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

    because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
    you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.
    you do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA;
    Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

    I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

    Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.
