I got a call from "unknown" the other day, they left a message saying it was my bank (the knew my actual bank name) and I need to 866-295-9060 to discuss an urgent matter with my account.  I called, got a voice prompt that all lines were busy (voice sounded like an African-American lady from the South) and someone would be with me shortly.  I held for 20 minutes, while on hold, my wife called our bank and they saw nothing wrong with my account and it was probably a phishing call!  Wow.

I forwarded the voicemail of the URGENT matter to the local branch manager.  Asking them if the number is valid for the bank.   I think I am going to make arrangements to call this number back with my reference number, but have the bank phishing dept/agent on the line also....   Updates to come....

Got this same call saying they needed to verify a check drawn on my account. When I hesitated to give my address, which they wanted to verify my identity, they gave me this number to call along with a reference number. I googled the number, expecting to see a listing that associated it with my bank. Nothing but scads of "did you get a call from this number?" entries. I called my bank's main number -- no issues with my account.

Why is there no "scam" on the "type of call" drop down for these comments?

This is one of the better phishing phone calls I've gotten, "Gil" actually sounded somewhat believable and actually left a message. He gave me a time frame to call back which might scare some people. Same deal with what he was looking for, ID verification and the reference number and such. It's a phishing call, just ignore it.

Just got a phone call from this number identifying them as a bank representative.  I did a google search on the number first before i called them back,  I called back and they wanted me to verify information.  When I advised them that they were not my bank, and I needed clarification on who they were before I disclosed anything, the representative got rude and said he could not disclose anything until I verified my address.  I told him that I'm sorry, was not going to verify anything and disconnected the call.
They are not your bank, call them out on it!!

Received a message from Jennifer who said she was with PNC Bank calling regarding my account.  She sounded rather brusque and insisted that I call her back at this number and left a reference number.  I was curious that the call/message came around 6:30 pm - not your normal business hours and so before returning the call, I googled the reverse look up and found this delightful list of posts.  I won't be returning the call.  Thanks to all!

I called this number back (after reading this thread) and gave the lady the reference number. She asked for my name and address for verification purposes, and I provided a FAKE name and FAKE address. She then said "OK, thanks"... we are calling because there was suspicious activity on your account, a check for the amount of $2,000 dollars was written out of this account to "Chicago County Tax Collector". She wanted me to verify the check was legitimate, and I confirmed it was (it REALLY was a check I wrote just 24 hours ago). She then thanked me and ended the call. So even though it's weird that she asked me about the check after I gave her FAKE info....the check she asked about was REAL. So this could really be PNC?

I called the # on the back of my PNC Debit card, and gave them the information from my messages.  They were able to verify that this # IS PNC's.  They transfered me to a representative from another dept. who needed to verify some suspicious activity posted to my account.  When in doubt, call the number you know belongs to the bank.

I got the same call from the same woman and thought she sounded shady, she said there was an urgent matter and it was very important I called.  I asked her if she was calling from the local branch, she said she was calling from a service desk... When she kept asking to confirm account information I said I would call PNC directly.  There was nothing wrong with my account and PNC does not have that phone number.  It was a scam, phishing for information, what a loser.  I hope she gets shut down before the holidays.  Get a job.

This is PNC Bank number. I was suspicious so I called PNC at 888 PNC BANK. They said 866-295-3163 is a PNC number. I was transferred to that number and simply confirmed that the signature on a check was actually mine. No phising, no scam.

It's legitimate number.  I called my contact with PNC Bank first to confirm.  They left us a voice mail message after hours.  PNC Bank called because a check did not have a signature.  They wanted to confirm that the check wasn't being deposited fraudulantly.  We ended up having to issue a different check because they would not process it without a signature.

    It is Legit
This is a number for PNC Bank. It came through as a "private number" on my cellphone, so I asked for verification. They gave it. The people at this number are with PNC's fraud department and they verify the legitimacy of unusual transactions. I verified they check in question, no problem. They were very curtious as well.

This was actually a valid call from PNC bank. They were checking to see if a check on my account was valid - I had forgotten to sign it and they don't automatically process unsigned checks. All they asked for was my name and mailing address, and then they gave me the information of the check I forgot to sign.

In terms of phishing, there's no value in getting your mailing address if they already have your name and know you're a PNC customer. They never asked for routing and account number, social security, or anything else sensitive.

It was an authentic call from PNC regarding checking account actvity.which was valid. They left a message and when I called back they first explained what these calls are about. I asked them enough general but specific questions to confirm they are PNC before answering their questions. I suggested that in the future they have my bank manager of the branch where I am banking call, whose voice I would have recognized, instead of a calling center. Am glad they are vigilant but you have to be careful and safest would be to go to your branch and have them call  back

This is absolutely NOT a PNC number.  If you think it is, you got duped twice.  I can go on and on why this is fake, please people.  My question is how do they get the information they did?  My cell #, my name, my account name?

This is definitely a PNC phone number. I too as others have written, received a phone call that came through as unknown number and unknown name. I spoke to a man who said he wanted to ID me before he could give me any other information. I told him I needed to be able to identify him before I could give any information. He said he could give me a phone number and reference number and that I needed to call back before 6:45 pm EST today. I called the number back but I was not sure that I was reaching the bank. So I hung up and called a phone number that I already had for my local branch. I told them what was happening and they called the phone number. The guy I spoke with from the local branch came back on the line and said yes it is PNC and it is the Fraud Department. So introductions were made and I spoke to the woman connected with the Fraud Division. A large legitiment withdrawal was taking place on my account and they wanted to verify before they let the transaction take place. The withdrawal is something I had previously authorized. So PNC was doing their job in trying to get ahold of me.
