im selling my car and posted it on a few websites. a man named jacob called and left me a message saying he is with longwood inc, a 501-c organization. he saw my car online and his company matches sellers with buyers. he claims he has a few buyers for my car. i have not returned his call, yet.

I just had the same thing, except he called me at 6:30am!!!

I also received calls from this fellow "Jacob Reed" on both my home and cell phone, and immediately became suspicious, especially since I am NOT trying to sell a vehicle.  He claims to work for a company called Longwood Inc. and gave the 1-866-326-0950 number.  I searched this website for "Longwood Incorporated" and an 877 number came up with 4 pages of comments from people received calls from another Longwood Inc. employee called "Alan".  If you search "Longwood Inc" you will see that there are many reasons not to do business with these people, including one poster's searching out the most recent BBB report he could and posting it.  It appears that items I have been trying to sell on Craigslist (not cars!)that I put my contact numbers on are the reasons for these calls.  Thank goodness for websites like 800Notes!

These morons keep calling. "Jacob" I just called them back and told them Im turning their number over to the FCC because when you list on craigs list companies are not supposed to contact you about the listing. Anyone that falls for this scam deserves it. I just cant believe people are trying to scam this way. HOW PATHETIC

I reported them to the FCC "Jacob Reed" Loongwood INC.

Same thing here just a few mins ago and thought before considering to call back since the message sounds fishy.  I was on the other line when an unavailable came up...I don't answer those anyhow for any reason.

I have a listing on Craigslist and did insert my number for those that may be using the library but guess I will go edit out my number and people can just email only and will just have to wait for a return email and go back to the library or where ever they may go online.  I do yes have a car for sale.  Sad scammers are doing this and presenting themselves as a non profit...gives bad names to the legit ones.

Same deal, I put an ad up on Kijij with my cell # number posted.

Jacob called me this am. I did advertise a car on craigslist, but DID NOT include the cell number he called on. I also advertised on Autotrader, where I had to include a contact number. The call was from "unknown" & Jacob Reed left the 866 326 0950 number for a call back, yeah right!

I just received a message on my phone from Jacob Reed and the offer to match sellers for our vehicle, a truck we listed on Craig's List. Jacob said Longwood Inc. is a 501c3.  I returned his call and overheard what seemed to be a big call center with other operators in the background, and talked to a woman name Andrea, who had a British accent and who told me their non-profit status is due to their company gaining imployment for handicapped persons.  In checking out Longwood, Inc I found this website.  Thanks to all who wrote in about their Jacob Reed messages. The phone number for Jacob was 866-326-0959.  The number Andrea gave me was 877-572-5714.  They have a "deal" that the fee is $199 but there is now a $99 special.  They promise several buyers that will pay full price we are asking and you can include the $99 fee.  Must pass this on to some agency to shut them down. Got a call also from Jacob Reed.  Didn't answer but had a message to call back 866-326-0950. I did not put my vehicle on Craig's list but put it in the AR Democrat-Gazette.

I put my car on craiglist over the weekend. And today Jacob Reed called me and left me a message with a return phone #of 866-326-0950. I returned his call and some lady answered the phone and she said she was taking messages for him. Well they say longwood incorp. but when there answering machine picks up it says lond wood industries. Well what it comes down to is that Jacob wanted me to pay him $99 to give my info to other people who might be interested in my car and he wanted me to give him my address to mail me a reciept. I told him that I was not interested. Sounds fishy right.

Why do you think its a scam?

I sold my car with these people.  They ARE NOT a scam.

They are a non-profit and have been in business for over 30 years.  If they were a scam they would have been shut down a long time ago.

All you people are falling into the herd mentality.  Has even one person here ever done business with this company.

I guess this is what we get for listing on a free site like Craigs List.  I think I'll just stick with autotrader.com and thebiglot.com in the future.  You get what you pay for.  I've sold 3 cars with these two sites in the last 6 years.  Got my money back twice on thebiglot.com before it worked, but in my experience you just gotta keep trying.  Eventually you'll get the call.  And I can vouch that these two sites are not scams.  Good luck.

I also had a call from this "Jacob" from the 866-326-0950 number. the funny thing is that my for sale truck is NOT on the internet it is just for sale in my parking lot with a sign and our local news paper...how they got my cell number I do not know but makes you think what your local papers are doing with your phone numbers huh?

not a scam, huh? how long did it take to sell your car, they didn't  try to clean out your bank account?

I also got a call from Jacob Reed. I will not return it. I'm not paying any service to sell my car and I also checked the box on craigslist to not be contacted by dealers. We are also on the do not call list. I'm glad that this service is available to check up on scams.

Recieved three calls today, on the third attempt "Jacob Reed" left a message, stating he had interested buyers in a classic car we are trying to sell out of the Hemmings magazine.  Glad I found this site, wouldn't have fallen for it anyways but nice to have others recieving the same call just to reassure my thoughts

I too received a call today from Jacob Reed and of course did not call him back.  I find it interesting that if this company is legit, that they they come up as unknown on my cell phone.  Another scam!!
