I got a call from this number at work, on the work phone. This # showed up on the caller ID display (866) 327-8877. There was a voice message recorded which was nothing but background noise. Then I googled the number and found this site.....weird.

It is a video relay service. If you know someone who is deaf, they are just calling you. They use a video with a company and the company calls you. Nothing to worry about. It's Sorenson VRS (Video Relay Service).

Keeps calling and asking for Pete. Also said something about Mike. Refuse to believe that they are calling the wrong number and no one is here by that name. Identified self as Ms. Perez (one time it was a man's voice). When I told them to stop harassing or I would call the police, they said they would do the same. A Google search landed me here.

The term is d e a f deaf. Death is the opposite of life. Deaf is the opposite of hearing! (Good grief!) The company is Sorenson, they do both IP and video relay. Video relay is legitimately used by deaf people who use a sign language interpreter to make phone calls. IP Relay is based on a website so anyone can use it including hearing kids who think it's funny to prank call their friends. It's also used by people from a foreign country calling people with classified ads trying to get them to wire money by cashing a bogus check. If you have classified ads running, you could take the call and ask the person calling to call you back through the "state relay" using their TTY. If you don't feel right about it, my suggestion is to be nice to the relay operator and just hang up each time you receive a relay call.

    ya i know
THe lack of anything on your message machine is an interpreter for the deaf letting the caller know it is a machine. Machines have a limited time and the caller often decides not to leave a message. If they leave no message, the interpreter does not speak. This is why you don't hear a messsage that says = uh - no message.

    BEWARE
Someone calling me back who was selling a car on Autotrader.com.  Ad said car was in San Francisco but he tells me it is in Houston TX.  Sounded like a scam to me.  I'm sure he would have sent me a money order or something to cover the shipping of the car if I cashed it and sent him back the differance.  BEWARE

Got a call just tonight on my cell phone from this number. A woman's voice in a monotone read some sort of introduction about how this was a call forwarding service for the deaf and that she would translate. She then told me that she was trying to reach <woman's name>'s parents. I politely told her that she had the wrong number as there was no one here by that name. The  "translator" then asked for my name. I instead asked her again who she was calling. She only reiterated that she was looking for <woman's name>'s parents. She again asked for my name - more insistent this time. By now the whole thing was feeling a bit fishy (I have no deaf friends or relatives & know no one by the name they were giving me). I told her that she didn't need my name and hung up. if this service is legit, they would not have pressed so hard for my contact information, in my opinion.

This is a phone number for Sorenson Relay service. Relay is a federally mandated system intended to facilitate communication between people who are deaf or hard of hearing and people who are hearing. Sorenson does video relay and text based IP Relay. Video relay is used legitimately by deaf people who have video phones or webcams and sign their conversation the relay operator voices it and then signs back. Must be a terrific upgrade from the old TDD based relay.

The text IP Relay system is exploited by teenagers and other immature people to anonymously prank call their friends, enemies, etc. It is also exploited by scammers mostly in W. Africa to contact small business and people who are selling things thru want ads, etc. The scammers try to pass fake checks, money orders, or Western Union payments and get "overpayments". If you are a small business owner or selling something thru want ads, be VERY skeptical!

Relay operators work under strict confidentiality. They HONESTLY have no information about the content of the call or who is calling. Please do not get hostile towards the relay operator. If it's a video relay call it's probably legitimate. If it's IP Relay it could be a prank or scam.

You may want to ask for the IP Relay Customer Service number and see what they can do to help you block IP Relay calls. If you do not want an IP relay call, simply hang up and continue hanging up when you receive them!

Called me 4 times in 3 minutes!!! Left 4 VM's 1sec, 2sec, 2sec & 12 seconds with a message about an ad I placed on craigslist this morning. Said they were a 'sip' (kinda garbled) relay communications assistant 2260 with a message about my ad & to check my email. Sounds like bull****!

sip = Sorenson IP (Internet Protocol) Relay

This is Sorenson's Text version of their relay service meaning the call originator was using an Internet Text-based device (AIM, etc.) to make the call.
