I am on the Do Not Call registry and my father-in-law is recooperating from 4 valve by-pass surgery.
Has anyone called the # to see who has answered?? - Ruth replies to Karen| 1 replyI called the number and it is the Evergreen group. Maybe someone in your family has an investment with them. Sometimes they call to get a proxy vote from the owner of the fund.
- Jeanleft no message
- HoustonReceived a letter as URGET, is a shareholder service for Evergreen Investments.
Called the number and nobody answered. A computer tells you: "All the circuits are busy, please try again later".- Caller: The Altman Group
- TexasGot a follow up letter from The Altman Group, NYC. Appears to be a proxy solicitor representing shareholders for the Evergreen Special Values Fund. Must be an important shareholder vote coming up, but I cannot find anything online about what that might be. Got the same computer "all circuits are busy" message. The main office for Altman is: 201-806-7300.
Somebody want to follow up with them?- Caller: The Altman Group (maybe)
- Call type: Unwanted
- SteveReceived several calls over the past week or two, but never a message. Received the same "URGENT" letter in mail yesterday, but letter was very sketchy (no details other than "The Altman Group has been retained by Evergreen Investments to contact you regarding an extremely important matter pertaining to your Evergreen fund." They try to make it sound like a life-or-death matter, but no real information given. When I called the number, I got the same "All circuits are busy" message if it even connected. It's definitely regarding a shareholder vote Evergreen Investments solicited a while back. Apparently, this company (Altman Group) is VERY annoying to more than just me.

- SanganoThis is some [***] shady business. I received an "URGENT" letter and a phone number that lead to no where. I've googled this Altman group and the website looks just as shady as this letter I'm holding.
- Jordan| 1 replyI called my financial planner and they are going to check with Evergreen. I'll post the results... but yeah definitely sketchy... Oh and I tried to call but it was just a busy tone.
- Caller: Altman Group
- asd replies to JordanThanks, because I got the same letter from the Altman Group dated Jan 29th, and I get a busy signal too. Please post what you find out from your financial advisor
- lrm| 1 replyI received the letter today and called. I got through. Altman appears to have been retained by Evergreen Investments to solicit support for the outstanding proxy vote. The person I spoke with sounded too much like a telemarketer wanting me to buy something. He referenced the Wells Fargo / Wachovia "thing" (meaning WF purchase of Wachovia) and said the proxy vote is required to transfer the management agreement. Why they are pressing for small investors like me to vote is odd. I said I wasn't ready to vote and asked where I can find more info. He referred me to Evergreen's website, which doesn't appear to have a link to the vote, or any reference to Wells Fargo or Wachovia.

- SARI also received the URGENT letter. I found this buried in their Individual Investors part of the website, which may be what this is related to:
Merger Update:
Evergreen Investments and Wells Fargo Asset Management Group are now Wells Fargo Asset Management Group - JordanMy planner called Evergreen and it is about a proxy vote about the merger with WellS Fargo. They said the lines have just been very busy, so that's why we couldn't get through.
- GFLA| 1 replyReceived letter from The Altman Group... To check with Wachovia Bank before calling them back... Very Annoying when they say they have been unsuccessful in contacting me... I have gotten calls too where they will not leave a message but just hang up. Let them spend postage. It's their money....
- GKI just received a call from a person claiming to be from Evergreen funds. He said there is an "emergency" shareholder meeting in the next two days and wanted to find out what my vote would be and to verify my address.
- Call type: Unwanted
- knowledge replies to GFLANo, it's your money I'm afraid. The meeting of shareholders was scheduled for Feb 12th. Because they lacked enough proxies for a quorum, the meeting was canceled and rescheduled for March 12th. Shareholders (and if you got a call, you are one) bear the expense of proxy solicitation, every last penny spent on mailings, phone calls and the like. These calls will continue 7 days a week, from 10 am- 11 pm EST for the next 4 weeks.
- knowledge replies to lrmYes, they are pressured to get your vote. And folks who ask to be removed from the dialer might not get their wish, since 90% of the solicitors are brain dead, and can't follow the simple instructions they learned from training on how to remove folks and put then on the do not call list.
By the way, the training that Altman leaves much to be desired, they will hire just about anyone with a pulse to make these calls.
Trust me , I know....I work there. - £Ø®Ð Åü$tîÑI just received a 8:30 pm call from 866-342-1635, no message was left on the answering machine. When I called their number back I got a recording saying that I had reached the Altman Group and to call back during normal business hours. I got some investments with Evergreen so it probably has something to do with that. According to the website www.altmangroup.com they are a "Proxy Solicitation Firm."
- Call type: Event reminder
- Laurel replies to RuthI got a call from this 866-342-1635 number on 2/20/09. I am on DoNotCall and have other blocks on my phone. They left no message. I called the # and its answering service said it was The Waltman Group, which may be affiliated with Citibank and Smith Barney. Curious.
