    "Not An Idiot"
Indian "Barry Cooper" claims to be calling from the IRS and threatening me and my family with a lawsuit.  Says, if I don't call back right NOW, his next call will be to the sheriff.  I called him back repeatedly from my US Government phone and ended up getting hung up on.

I just received a call from this number claiming that he is from the tax audit department of IRS saying that there is a criminal charge against my social. He asked me to call back immediately. Apparently many people have received this call, so it has to be fraud.  I also consulted my lawyer and he advised not to call back as these people are thieves. I hope the law enforcement agencies could track them out and punish

    Working from home
I was working from home today, and didn't realize how many scam calls come in.  I got a call from this number from a "Steve Clarke"- oddly, with an indian accent, telling me that he is from the IRS and there is a lawsuit against me.  I asked for his call back number, and IRS badge or employee number, and the case number against me.  He told me he would provide that info later.  I then hung up on him, and he called back yelling at me for hanging up on him.

I hung up on him again.

I then called back the 866-349-3917 number using *67, and same voice answered saying, "IRS".

I'm sure there are people out there that would fall prey to this scam.

866-349-3917  "Steve Clarke" an indian accent threatening me. He said that he is from the the IRS and there is a lawsuit against me. I don't mind him because I know he is fraud. "it is impossible" but he keeps on calling its annoying. He was angry for hanging up on him.  May the authority will take action against him or to those people like him put them in jail without bail .

I got two of these calls back to back. I have caller ID so when I don't know a number I screen it. It is insane. Why can't the government do something about these scammers?

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers in both Canada and the USA.
USA tax payers should read this:
    http://www.irs.gov/uac/Tax-Scams-Consumer-Alerts
Note particularly the links at that site, warning of the scam!

I received a call from this number and he was saying with an Indian accent " this is the IRS" I laughed to death. I told him " The IRS is a federal agent and if they want you badly they won't call from as you claim they would knock your door!!" He hang up on me. I called them million time back! I gave them very hard time until I had one of them to speak to me. He told me no one have done what you done of calling us like that. I start to advice the kid and getting some info from him. He was very good kid and very smart too. I spoke with him for about 40min and advice him of opportunity he can do. Moreover, from what I learn from him!! His only a collage student who wants to pay his school expenses. But the bad guys who run this fraud company takes advantage of those  collage kids and hire them for $1 an hour from what he said. Also when I asked him from where the gets the number he told me " they give us lists with names and we call" also when I asked him how they make money he said " sometimes people pays $10,000++".
It's really sad and I had him to promise me to leave this bad job and find a better one. He was really good and smart kid.

    Richard -

    True.
Even in this "information age", where people have access to good info, the scammers can still convince people to send money.  It is really not that difficult to find information on potential scams ... but some folks' capabilities are severly restricted.

Just think of the number of scammees who were unable to find their way to 800notes before getting scammed!

This caller had a strong Chinese accent and introduced himself as officer Jim Carter from IRS. He gave ID #110029.......and a 877-391-4356 call back number. He stated there is a legal case against me that needs my attention within 30 minutes, or else...When called the 877 number "Mark" answered. Asked what office he is with he said "audit office".  Played the game further and asked for officer Carter. Another "officer" came to the phone - Daniel Smith- with the same  strong Chinese accent. When asked where is his office located he said it is IRS in DC. Then I asked for his ID and he broke out in profanities and hang up.  About 4 hours later the phone started ringing again from the same 866 area code number. Do not fall for scams. Do your research and stay smart. I reported IRS Impersonation scam on TIGTA.GOV and I hope the scammers will be caught.

So this Indian man with his Indian accent said his name is George Taylor?... Please... He claimed to be from the tax and audit dept but little did he think ppl actually look up these "fishy" and "suspicious" phone numbers from these "fishy" callers ... It's all fake and a scam. Do NOT be fooled. Do NOT give any information. If it were legit, you would have received a letter directly from IRS. BEWARE my fellow Americans... Our personal info and identity solemnly belongs to us. It's not info to be shared.

I received tons of phone calls on my home phone and my cell and a man with an indian accent claiming he was Nash Taylor from IRS and he was threatening to send the sheriffs to my house and take me to jail for eleven years without bail unless we pay. We knew something was fishy when they told us that they will only except $3298 in cash deposited from our bank. TOTAL SCAM! The government should take action.

My guys must have been the worst one.  didn't give a name or anything.  told me I had to not say a word while he spoke (he was reading from a script and kept messing up.)  told me an audit had been done on my taxes from 2008-2012 and that i had willfully, in an attempt to defraud the federal government, not paid $3,755.  then he asked if i had any questions and I said no. He then said I would be arrested. I said, I'm being arrested? he said yeah the police will arrest you.  I said so I should sit here and wait for the police to arrest me.  He said yes.  I said, so they're coming now?  Yes.  How long do I have to wait to be arrested.  they are coming now to arrest you.

They obviously operate on fear.  i think the more you welcome your arrest warrant (not show fear) the quicker they move on.  it sickens me that people out they prey on others like this.
