    Rec'd a call from 866-353-2932 from a man that sounded like he was a recording. Every time he spoke he would say 3 or 4 words and then a pause. He stated that my case has been forward to him from the state of Arizona. That he will summons me either at work or home. At the end of message he said "Good Luck"

    I Rec'd the same call today but the number was UNKNOWN and the name that was asked for was my brother, not mine. (we've never shared the same number or changed our numbers in the last 6 years, minimum).

    He said his name was Investigator William Martin and that he was a licensed processor for the State of Nevada calling about a Fax that was received from "CR Legal Services" and he needed to confirm information about home and possible place of employment in order to serve a summons. At the end of the message, the individual said thank you and good luck.

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    •is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    •refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    •asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    •exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

    •Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you

    .•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

    •Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

    •Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

    •Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    I received a call from that number and I called them back.  They said it was from 8 years ago and it was a payday loan but wouldn't give me a name of the company.  I told them not to call me or harass me till they sent me proof of the claim in writing and she said fine and hung up.

    Received a call from Shannon Spelling with NPPS office, regarding a fax for a case being filed against me.  And asking to stop by my home or place of employment to sign for a legal document.  Then reference me to this 866 number.

    Sounds like its for payday loan debt scam.  Whatever.

    I got this exact same call today.  But he just left me a voicemail.  The only kicker, he was gave my maiden name (which I haven't used in YEARS)!  If this was true, I would assume they would have the correct info.

    I just recevied a call from a lady who said she was an investigator from NPPS working w/ King County.  She wanted me to call 866-353-2932 to discuss some legal documentation.  The number came up on the caller ID as UNKNOWN.  Scary part is she had the last 4 digits of my SSN.  I have no outstanding debt so I'm wondering how she had my last 4 digits of my SSN & I have not applied for any credit.  I work for the government & will be contacting the police with this information.

    Got a voicemail from 'Investigator William Martin' with MPPS? MPTS? Couldn't really understand him, he sounded like a robot. Stated he was a process server for AZ, contacted by CR Legal. Gave me a case # and everything.  Sure it's a scam, I've received several of these calls, all claiming to be someone from the government calling for CR Legal. They always say I have a case against my social, they will come to my home and office, best of luck...blah, blah, blah. When I call them, they refuse to give me any actual information, basically just argue with/threaten me until I tell them I've reported them to the FTC, then they hang up.
