- Scott| 18 repliesHello,
I've taken the time to reply out of genuine concern for others. Just to be clear, this message is a reply to those people who have comments about 1-866-355-3744. Although, I received a call from 1-877-242-7327 with a message including 1-866-355-3744 in it.
I'm guessing that all of you have something in common. That is you all have a Chase credit card account. Imagine the following. Someone is trying to access your account information online. This person has your User ID and Password and they login successfully. However, the Chase server doesn't recognize the PC that the user has logged in from. Do you want Chase to grant access or not? Perhaps you do if this person is you. Perhaps Chase wants to be cautious. If it is you trying to gain access, there must be a way to proceed. So Chase presents you with your phone number or email address (partially blocked out) to which they can send an authorization code for you to use to proceed. If you were the person trying to access your account, you'd expect a phone call or email message. Now Imagine that this person trying to get access is an unauthorized person. If they've made the request for the authorization number, they shouldn't get it because you would be called with that authorization number; but you wouldn't expect the call, would you?
When you hear a message providing an authorization number to access your account which you didn't request, wouldn't you want to hear what you should do about it? Would you be concerned yet? I certainly would be. So, Chase tells you to please call 1-866-355-3744 if you didn't request this authorization number.
I tried to access my Chase account from a PC I hadn't used before. I requested the authorization code by phone and within a minute I received the automated message with the authorization code. I used the code to access my account.
Now do you still think this is a scam? I'd think twice before assuming something like this is a scam in the future. If you don't want to call the phone number the message provides, at least call the Chase phone number on the back of your credit card and report the attempted account access. This should at least prompt you to consider changing your online User ID and/or Password.
Sincerely, Scott- Caller: Chase Bank

- brad| 1 replyWe got a phone call, supposedly from Chase bank, at 4:49 AM, giving us an activation code. The call woke up the whole house. When I called the number they left, 866-355-3744, they requested my social security number or my credit card number. I did not give it to them. I called Chase directly, and they said:
1. It was against federal law to call at 4:49 am
2. They did not recognize the phone number 866-355-3744
3. They had no record in our account of a call giving us an activation code - California Chase CustomerI too received a call giving me an authorization code, and if I had not requested the code to call 866-355-3744. I had not requested an authorization code, so I called the number and was told I had reached Chase's Loss Prevention Office, but that the voice mail I received gave the wrong telephone number. The Loss Prevention employee said he would transfer me to the correct department. I was put on hold, but it seemed suspicious, so I hung up the phone and called Chase using the number on my credit card. I was transfered to Security. Security told me Chase had left the message for me, and they wanted to confirm some recent activity on my card (from earlier that day). I confirmed the transactions and that was that. If you are suspicious I would recommend calling Chase using the number on your statement to verify that the voice mail is authentic.

- John D. replies to Scott| 1 replyI agree with Scott. I think this is a legitimate call.
I remember coming across these posts before when looking up a number that showed up on my mother's caller id.
I was logging onto the Chase website after reinstalling Windows on my computer and was told that my computer was not recognized and to ask for a confirmation code to be delivered by phone, text or email. I requested a confirmation code by phone.
I had requested the code, so I know the call was legitimate. I got the call probably 30 seconds after requesting the code be delivered to me by phone. I normally stop listening after getting my code, but I listened to the rest of the message and wrote down the number at the end of the message in order to google it.
If you did not request the code, then, as Scott suggested, perhaps someone else is trying to log in to your account. If I got a call like this and had not requested the code, I would call my bank at the number on my atm card, or at the "Contact Us" number listed on the Chase website. And then, I would probably change my login password too. - Former Chase CustomerReceived one of these calls with an access number. My guess is someone typo'd the phone number or account number since I closed my Chase account over a year ago. Called a Chase number from an old statement and they said they were aware of the number and what it is used for. Transfered me but I elected not to hold on the line since they also confirmed my account is closed.

- I have no account w. ChaseI got the call from that 877-242-7372, about the authorization code and to call back the 866-355-3744 if I never wanted an authorization code. Sounded totally like a scam, so I called Chase Bank with one of their numbers off their website and told them about it. I do not and never did have any type of account with Chase. Just another scam by people who are too lax=zy to get off their a** and get a real job. I think Scott was actually part of the scam , think about it, get on here and try to make a post saying its legit. I hate you scott!

- KimSame message for me.... however, I called the online number and spoke with a customer service person who found out that someone else had requested a code for their account. It WAS an actual Chase customer but they had my phone number listed incorrectly in their profile. I was then transfered to another department who corrected the error.
- jmLooks like this is a service of TeleSign (.com) I got a string of missed calls from TeleSign's system from some Chase user has our number incorrectly listed on their account. The string off calls were missed and went to vmail while nobody was around to answer, and TeleSign's system called repeatedly until it gave up. So if you are listening TeleSign, please limit the number of times your system tries to call. I called 866-355-3744, and they end up confirming they will scrub my phone number of the user's account.
- FUK SCAMMERSThis is a scam. Chase does not have this toll free number...Just called the number off of chase.com. DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER GIVEN (866-355-3744).
- Joe MuggsI just got the 866-355-3744 call at 10:20 PM. I don't have a Chase account. It's a scam and you'd have to be a fool to call that number.
- Caller: I answered too soon to get it.
- ViqsiWe don't have caller ID at my synagogue (where I work), so I don't know where this call came from when it came in during the afternoon (around 3pm EST), but it referenced the 866-355-3744 number. We do have a Chase account, but nobody here had requested such a code, and I was concerned at folks suggesting here that it was a fraud attempt. Fortunately, we have a Business Relationship Manager contact at Chase who I could call; when I did, he conferenced me in to their online support (their number was 877-242-7372). When we got to online support, we discovered that one of our volunteers had inadvertently put our number down in her own personal profile, and she was requesting an online code for her own personal account!
So in our case it was legitimately from Chase; we just had a ditzy congregant give them our number instead of her own. Oops!- Call type: Event reminder
- JayI received the same call, it was supposedly from Chase. I called the toll free number provided, 866 355-3744, and it did not seem legitimate. I hung up without divulging any information. Subsequently, I called Chase and was told they DID NOT at any point contact me with an access code. This is a scam to to obtain your financial information.
They must be pretty sophisticated to set up a toll free number, have operators, music, and messages impersonating Chase.- Caller: supposedly Chase
- MATTYTHIS IS A SCAM ... THIS IS THE NUMBER THE PHISHER GIVES YOU TO CALL IN USING SOFTWARE FRAUD TECHNOLOGY ...This number is NOT affiliated with Chase bank as I answered it tonigh and was told to call the above number and was very skillfully asked for the last 4, but later in the call the "middle two" numbers in my social security number. I realized I had been scammed by calling the customer service number on the back of my card whereupon I was informed that Chase DOES NOT verify the "middle two" numbers in a social security number.
Additionally - the number I was called on wasn't even listed with my credit card. This is a well-executed scam involving hightly trained people. Call equifax immediately if you made the mistake that I did.Caller: claimed to be Chase Bank- Caller: claimed to be chase bank
- royboy65This is DEFINITELY a phishing operation. I emailed Chase through my secure online connection and they emphatically stated that the 866-355-3744 is NOT a Chase number and they promised to look into it. The idiot Scott's comments above lead me to believe that he is one of the perpetrators. DO NOT, call this number as nothing good can possibly come from this, except giving someone the information they might need to access your account.
- mew replies to bradI got a call around lunchtime from 877-226-5663 with an automated message from "Chase online" with the "ID code that I requested" and the automated voice listed an 8-digit code. Then the voice said if I did not request this code to call 1-866-355-3744.
Well, I did not trust that, so I went to the Chase web site to find their actual customer service number and called that. When I talked to a customer service rep, she said that there was no record of Chase sending me an automated voicemail with a code, and also that the 1-866-355-3744 phone number is NOT a valid phone number with Chase. - ArtThis is for sure a scam and yes scott is an idiot and might even be in on this scam. I called the 866 # and gave my name and SS# but at that point realized it was a scam and hung up. I then had to cancel my bank account and place a fraud alert with Equifax which then notifies the other 2 credit bureaus. I feel like such a fool!
- Caller: Dont know
- AnonymousDon't be a fool. If you get an unexpected call purporting to be from a company you have business with, never give out your information, and don't call them back at the number they tell you to. Contact the business yourself to get any situation resolved. You bank statement, utility bill, etc. will always have the company's correct phone number on it.
It's sad that this scam is still going on after all this time. Who knows how many honest people they've scammed. Aren't there government bodies that track these scammers and shut them down?- Call type: Telemarketer
