Walmart called to verify online order

I got a call/message from someone saying her name was Carol, and that she was from Walmart.com.  She said that they had received an order from me and was calling to verify it.  I've never ordered anything from them.  I went online to get Wal-Mart's actual phone #, 1-800-925-6278.  The REAL billing department at Wal-Mart had no record of the order number I was told to reference or of my phone number!   Phishing scam, BEWARE!!!

UPDATE:  Carol called the next day, and gave me the AMX# that had a questionable charge on it.  I called AMX and indeed, there where 3 unauthorized charges on my AMX card.  I had the card cancelled.  Thank You, to Wal-Mart.com!

I checked my bank account. My ATM # had been used to place an order with WalMart online. Someone had stolen my MC/ATM #. I cancelled the order and my card.

Walmart called to verify online order

I placed an order on Walmart.com.  I received a call later that day telling me to call this number about my order.  I had to leave a message; I'm not sure if it's legit or not

Walmart called to verify an order placed on my credit card. I never placed an order with Walmart. They must have a great security screening system. I was not able to reach them as it was after hours. I contacted my card issuer and found there was use on my card, not mine. Thank you Walmart for being proactive. I had my cards cancelled. Was never a Walmart shopper. I think I may give them a try. Thanks again Walmart. You are better than my bank at being proactive to stop theft. My bank received many of the billions of bail out dollars. Walmart received zero. Walmart works and the banks don't. The FED should have never bailed out the looser banks and let them fail. There are plenty of small community banks that are doing a fine job. They would have been able to grow and take over.

Received call from Wal-Mart.  Had to call back with invoice number that was not the same as the one in my e-mail.  This is a security check to verify that you were really the one who ordered it.  They asked for the invoice number, verified my shipping address and verified what I ordered.  They DID NOT ask for any confidential information.  Once I provided the info, my order was released for shipping.

Totally legit, Walmart billing #. I'm actually impressed walmart does this, could save alot of drama with stolen cards.

This is a legit WalMart number.  They called us to veify an on-line order.

this is from wal mart.com  they call with a security question, that only the person who placed the order can answer.  as it is and order specific question.

This number called, and a gentleman left a message with a verification invoice number from my walmart.com order (I had just ordered there). No credit card info was asked for,they just wanted to make sure I had actually made the order so they could release it. This is a pretty cool feature for Walmart to have.

I got the call from 866-371-1946 today.  It apparently is a legit Wal-Mart number, but they don't publish it.  (I suggested that they do put it on some walmart.com page to make people like me beleive that the caller really is from Wal-Mart)  

Wal-Mart's main toll free number is 1-800-wal-mart, so that is the one I called back on.  They took care of the charge.  

All in all, someone stole my Amex number and Wal Mart brought it to my attention before even Amex did...pretty impressive.

This is a totally legit number. It just happened to me. They confirmed a fraudulent charge, I called my CC Company, they confirmed and we closed the account. Kudos to Walmart.com!

I was left a message from this number claiming to be WalMart, giving an invoice number. I called back the next day and with only giving the invoice number (and no other personal info), they gave me the last 4 digits of my card and said someone had made a purchase of over $800 online at Walmart.com and they were calling to verify. I told them it wasn't me and they cancelled the order.

Went to my CC website and verified the same amount had reduced my available credit, so this is not a scam.

Received a voicemail message from this number, about confirming a CC order from walmart.com.  I was very suspicious, because we had not ordered and the voice sounded very eastern European.  Provided an invoice number for reference, and repeated this phone number, call should be within 24 hours or risk the order being cancelled.  Received a voicemail from my CC company about an hour later regarding recent charges, and a number to reach their fraud division.  This new number did not show up on the CC website, so I called the number on the back of the CC - got an operator and explained the message and the 'questionable' fraud number.  He confirmed it, and transferred me to them.  They asked about 2 online charges from the day before (walmart.com and bigtimewireless.com) which were both fraudulent.  Card canceled immediately and a new one being issued.  Even though I'm not liable for fraudulent charges, I did contact the walmart.com number here and explained the situation to them.  They confirmed the same charge against my CC, which I explained was bogus.  Hopefully this was cancelled before the shipment was made, for walmart's sake.  These were both legit.

Legit number from Walmart.com. I had ordered a camera and they called to verify the order and my address. Good security feature.

This is on the level.  It is Walmart's fraud prevention center.  Walmart told me there was suspicious activity on my Discover card.  They didn't ask for any information.  They just told me to check with Discover.  I found out that there was a $400 charge at Walmart and $700 from Apple that were bogus.
