RUDE.......RUDE.......RUDE......say they are FROM Bank of America, but have found they are ALLIED INTERSTATE, a collection agency.  Apparently working off very outdated records. My 74 year old dad was robbed and credit card was stolen. According to Bank of America the account is satisfied. That was in 1992.....this is 2007 and these nuts keep harrassing us. And wow do they get rude! Even informed me that I AM RESPONSIBLE for his debts, lol.  Not hardly! Sad that people are allowed to badger people in their private homes this way.  Somebody needs to shut these people down for sure.

They have been calling my 94 year old mother and saying " There has been a death, please call us", which scares her. When I call back I am put on hold for so long I give up. She owes nothing to nayone, so why are they calling?

In short... you all need something better to do than complain that a legitimate business is kept in business because you can't take care of your responsibilities as "adults" and pay your bills. You do realize that the more you rack up in debt, the more these businesses make off of your stupidity and laziness. You annoy collectors just as much as they annoy you. Both sides make me sick. If everyone wasn't out to find a way to not pay their bills then maybe these things you [***] about so much wouldn't happen... never thought of that though did you??? Among many other factors of course... all these unpaid debts you people make and refuse to resolve is another reason interest rates are so damn high for the rest of us that chose to act our age and take care of the debts we incur. Grow up people..

    Frustrated replies to bill collector
Not true.  I pay all my bills, have an excellent credit rating and get 2-3 calls from them a day.  I don't even know who they are looking for because their message is junk and when I answer it's usually the message again.

ONEWHOPAYSBILLS and BILL COLLECTOR: you may have exemplary credit, but all you need is *just one major illness* and an insurance adjuster to deny a lifesaving procedure, and unless you are very wealthy (which most people in this country aren't) you will be singing a different tune. Most bankruptcies are due now to medical bills, and it was not because these people were deadbeats. Wait until it happens to you or your parents. I daresay you won't be quite so judgemental and righteous.

Bill Collector, with that callous and inhumane attitude (and ignorance of the facts) I feel NO desire to be helpful or provide information to you.

This is just the latest in a string of more than 10 different Collection Agencies who have called my cell # in the past year.  I hate to say it, especially given the tactless comments from industry insiders (way to live down the reputation guys), but...it's not really their fault.  I got my cell number about 3 years ago.  Apparently the previous "owner" of the number had run up some fairly massive debts all over the country.  So; I started getting calls from different agencies, one by one.  When I told them; sorry, I was given this phone number a few years back, they said "Ok, we'll make a note of this in THE FILE.  You won't get any more call from us."  And I didn't get any more calls... from them.  It simply rolled to the next agency, who were working from a fresh un-annotated  copy of THE FILE.  I've never gotten a straight answer when I ask where this file comes from, and am brushed off when I ask if they could notify that source about the phone number they still have on file somewhere.

So the question is: How do I get in touch with the source?  I'm relatively certain the agencies are all getting their info from one place.  Credit Bureaus perhaps?  How can i fix this? -Any advice from the pros? (now would be a good time to step up).

Received a call stating that Allied Interstates client is Bank of America.  Hung up immediatly and this number is now getting blocked first thing tomorrow.  This is an super old debt.  I tried to settle with B of A 5 years ago on the full balance of my car loan 7000 dollars but after a couple years of no payment they added extra fee's and interest on top of the original loan it added up to 18000 dollars.  This is after I willingly turned in the vehicle after loosing my job.  I was willing to pay a little more then the 7000 but they were unwilling to negociate a far price.  There is no way I'm going to pay all their made up fee's.  Now they get nothing!

Similar to Yossarian, we were also issued a new cell and home number from moving here from another country.  Clearly the previous owners owed money and we therefore get debt collectors calling us all the time asking for the previous owners.  They somehow don't believe us when we tell them they have the wrong people and to stop calling us.  Surely there is a way for these debt collection companies  to do their homework and check to see who the phones are registered too and that they are INDEED calling the WRONG people???!!?? It is rather annoying when they don't believe the honest people and continually harrass us for no reason.

    Irritated
After I began to receive calls from this number, I did some research and found it was Allied Interstate trying to collect a debt. My credit is spotless, but I found out that a relative with my same last name apparently provided this number as a contact...right before he defaulted on some huge debts and disappeared. I receive about six calls a day from this (and other) Allied Interstate numbers looking for my relative. I've blocked all of their numbers but they keep calling. They even spoofed a local number in an attempt to get me to answer. Judging from the messages here, telling them to stop won't work. Any suggestions? Do I have to hire an attorney? It's only 9:00 and I've already received two calls from them today.
