- knoxtennThis company, Abstar Financial, is located in San Diego CA. They are a credit card processing company. They call my business line several times a day. They are very evasive with information and insist that I need their services. When I tell them I already have a merchant account through my bank, they become loud and demanding. I have requested removal each time, but they hang up on me as I start to ask for removal. When getting calls like this repeatedly, I usually end up calling the sheriff in the county in which they are located. In a couple of instances, the sheriff has actually paid the company an in-person visit and given them a verbal warning.
When people like this call, the first thing I do is ask for their name. Then I say, "I'm sorry, I didn't get the name of your company." I then ask them what county and state they are located in. They do not want to give this information, so I tell them I like to know who I am talking with before discussing business. That way, if they continue to call, I simply contact their local sheriff.- Caller: Abstar Financial

- john43085On October 30, 2007 at 1:37 pm, I received a telephone call from 866-395-5829 on my cell phone. The caller did not leave a voice mail message. Since I didn't recognize the caller, I didn't answer. I filed a complaint with the FTC Do-Not-Call Registry concerning the caller.

- Katherine| 1 replyYes, this number has been calling me too. I am also on the do not call registry. I suggest everyone complain to the do not call registry. There is a significant fine that they can pursue.
- Katherine again replies to KatherineIt did occur to me that maybe all of us should figure out what makes us similar...maybe then we could find out how these people are getting our numbers. For example, I am a verizon wireless user, I recently filed a claim with verizon. Maybe there are some other similarities.
- Irritated in Atlanta| 2 repliesGot more info for you. This is a national sleazebag broker for credit card processing. They have outside commission salesweasels in some major metro areas and anyone can sign up on their website to be a "sales agent." When William first called, he said he got my number from a friend (and he named a correct friend) and made it sound like he was wanting to hire my company to do some work for him. I entered that into the contact notes in my phone to remember to thank Wesley. When I called back to pursue the business, it turned out that they just wanted to "learn more about" my business and see how they could "help maximize our advantages in the marketplace" or some such drivel.
The one who called me back today, Mike, tried hard to get an appointment at our office but finally agreed to meet me at a local coffee chain to discuss how they could sell me something, no more pretense about wanting my help, this is pure sales slime. So after the country-dumb trick of agreeing to meet him, I asked how they heard about us. Mike claimed they only ever take contact info from DNB, no mention of my friend Wesley.
Oddly enough I don't intend to attend the meeting. Hey, if you waste my cell minutes, I can waste your gas. [***]. I wonder how many appointments he'll let me reschedule before he figures it out.
I got him to spell everything for me. Company is AppStar at appstarDOTnet.
