- Elizabeth| 2 repliesI received a phone call from this number this morning on my cell phone. Since the called ID said "Unknown," I didn't answer it. The caller, a Sally, said she was from Visa Fraud Prevention and that they were calling on behalf of activity from my account. I recently opened a business checking account at my bank and, of course, received a Visa business check card. I made a large purchase yesterday, so it really could be Visa checking to make sure it was me who made the purchase. However, I would think that Visa would contact me by mail rather than an unlisted phone number, so I'm a little wary. Sally mentioned that I should have my card number handy and that it was "very important" that I contact them as soon as possible. I'm monitoring my account very closely and I will be calling my bank just to make sure.
My advise is to NOT answer this number and most certainly DO NOT give out your card number to anyone. Your bank -- and Visa -- should already have this information.
I checked the Visa website (visa.com) and found this:

How can I reduce my risk of phone and mail fraud scams?
It's important for consumers to know that Visa will not call or e-mail cardholders to request their personal account information. Visa call centers do not initiate outbound telemarketing calls. Consumers should not respond to any e-mails or phone calls with requests for any personal card information and are advised to immediately report the situation to local law enforcement as well as the financial institution that issued their card. Cardholders should also know that Visa's zero liability* fraud policy ensures that they are not held responsible for any unauthorized purchases.
You should never give out account or personal information over the phone or in response to a mailing unless you initiated the communication yourself or have positively verified the source. Notify your local post office immediately if you change your address, make sure your mailbox is locked or not accessible to outsiders, and remove delivered mail promptly. On the phone, don’t be afraid to ask questions, including asking for a number to call back.

This phone number is very obviously a fraud. DO NOT ANSWER IT OR GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION.- Caller: "Visa Fraud Prevention" -- SCAM
- GanMuff replies to ElizabethThank you - !!
- psboYes, I have received 2 calls just this morning. I of course did not give out info and am sure this is a scam. No financial institute would initiate and automated call asking for personal information. As the previous comment stated, they already have this info...just hang up and report them to your bank.
- TylerSame as the above give details. I have received multiple calls from this number (It's nearing 8 times...I've noticed after 3 times it actually started asking if a "____" was home regarding the issue (Seems to be a randomly generated name...poorly as well, as mine was just "Bee"). Again, ignore this number...given it asks directly for a credit card number it's no doubt a phishing attempt.
- Caller: Claims to be a fraud protection company
- MelisI received a voice mail from Kevin leaving this number to call back any time, 24/7, regarding fraudulent activity on my Visa bank card. The thing that got me was the part saying "have your card number ready when you call back". No way could that be legit. No bank calls YOU asking for your information, they already HAVE it! I did, however, make two large purchases with my card in the days prior to receiving the phone call. Scary, isn't it, that whoever these callers are can access this information somehow??? YIKES
- Caller: Visa Fraud Prevention
- MarkI just called VISA directly to check on this number, and would suggest that you all do the same. This IS their fraud prevention service. If you don't feel comfortable calling this number and giving out your info (like I initially was), you can call VISA and they will connect you to their fraud prevention line. If found their service number on http://usa.visa.com/personal/cards/benefits/vgcac_phone_popup.html. Likely your bank has this number too, though my bank's customer service line was closed for the weekend. Before I was connected, I confirmed with the agent that 866 416 5690 is indeed a VISA fraud protection number. Even so, call and check the number. Don't take the word of some random person on the internet.

- Call type: Unwanted
- Mark replies to Mikron24By the way, Mikeron, the reason they call you day and night is because they are worried that someone has stolen your credit card or debit card. Wouldn't you rather have a few annoying calls now and then if it prevents some jerk from stealing your card and DRAINING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT?! If not, you can almost certainly have the fraud prevention removed.
- Mark replies to ElizabethSee my other posts. Call visa directly. They DO ask for some information over the phone in order to identify your account. They are calling the phone number you put on file with the bank. Call VISA directly if you are uncomfortable with them calling you. They can connect you to their fraud line. These calls are important because they may tell you about unauthorized activity on the account.
- kokoListen, I got this call too and it was as simple as calling my bank and asking if the call is legit. They told ME the number that would call and they confirmed that that is apart of their department.
That's all you need to do people.- Call type: Unwanted
- CarolThis is not your bank!!!!!!!!!! They are not legitatimate. I contacted my bank and they stated emphactically that will call us directly not anyone else and do not give out any information to these people whatsoever!!!!
- internetscout2I received a call from this number 1 minute after I autherized a transaction, I think its a good thing that they call when there is suspicious activity on my card (Visa fraud protection)
if I received the call at any time of the day it would put up a red flag,
but just after a transaction i make in another state, that automatically shows me legitimacy to the call by them- Caller: Visa Fraud protection

- JimI also recieved a call from 866 - 416 - 5690, but the catch is there was a 44 before the number on my caller ID, which is the country code for UK. Anyone else notice that? I do have 3 fraudelent charges on my card. I have contacted my bank and have to fill out papers and file a police report. The person on the phone did say there were 5 transactions on my account, when in actuality there were only 3. But, they did ask my wife, who answered the call for my account number, which she did not do.
- Caller: Visa Fraud Co.
- PaulaI got this phone call also and it IS YOUR BANK'S VISA CARD calling. When I called them back, I was suspicious as I always am about unknown numbers. They did have an automated VISA system pick up, which recognized my phone number and said it was VISA calling on behalf of my bank, First Financial Bank. Since they did not leave a message, I did not have a case number, so I just pressed zero to get the next operator. She asked if this was the number they were calling (I said yes) and then she pulled up my account. She did not ask me for any information that was too personal. She said that they show that I live in Burlington, KY and she asked me to verify the zip code. Then, she said that she had my birthdate as a date in July and she asked me to verify which date it was. She never asked for my full date of birth or social security card.
After I verified my information, she told me they were calling to check for possible fraud on some recent purchases, they she went on to tell me what the purchase amount was for and where I made the charges at. Now if it were fraud, how would they know where I have been charging, especially since they never asked for my card number or personal identification. I have no doubt that this phone number is legit. Also, sometimes fraud departments call after normal business hours.
IF YOU HAVE A BANK-ISSUED VISA CARD, CALL THIS NUMBER BACK. IT COULD SAVE YOU A LOT OF HASSLE! Your individual bank teller may not know this number because this is a central processing center for VISA, not your bank's individual department.
I had one call me about 10:30 pm one night to question a recent charge on my VISA and it was fraud and they shut my card down. Thank goodness they did, or someone could have robbed me blind.- Caller: VISA Fraud Department (For First Financial Bank)
- Karen replies to Mikron24This is legit. I called them back immediately and found a charge from Emirates Airlines in Dubai, and a blocked one from RBS in the Netherlands. If I hadn't called right away I'd be in big trouble.
- KaraIf this number calls you, please answer it! They are calling to tell you somebody got your credit card number and blocked a charge until they talk to you. They called my all day yesterday but I didn't answer. I tried to make a purchase on my card today and wasn't able so I called my bank and I found out about the fraud.
- DebI also received 5 voicemails in one day. When I called and they said "have your case number or your card numbre", it made me nervous. I did call back and they just wanted to verify that 2 large purchses were actually made by me since I don't normally make large purchases.
In the end, I have to say that I am thankful that they are watching and checking. What if it had been someone else? I know that they cover fraudulant charges and a but, I think it's a good thing.- Caller: Visa Farud prevention on behalf of my bank.
- ZaraApparently legit - Got a call from them saying they were Visa Fraud Prevention and also named my bank specifically. I called Visa, and they told me that it was a fake number. However, I then called my bank, who said it was a legitimate number. I asked why Visa would say it was fake, and they said that it was part of the bank's department not Visa. They connected me to fraud prevention at that point.
Check first, I guess!- Caller: Visa Fraud Prevention from local bank
- Holly CicaloThis was a legitimate phone call from visa regarding my bank debit card...they gave a case number. When I called back they had the last 4 digits of my card and asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN. They told me the date and amount of the transaction in question and the phone number of the vendor. They put a hold on the transaction until I verified the purchase. This in no way was a scam. Nobody asked for my credit card number or any other secure information. Turned out not to be fraud but a charge I didn't realize I had incurred. This alert gave me a chance to cancel an unwise transaction. Trust me I never answer a call if I don't recognize the number...this time it was the real deal. Just don't give out any info to anyone who calls you...always get a call back number and verify it yourself.
- Caller: Visa Fraud Prevention
- Cal CAlert!! This service is not bank associated, they are associated with hackers who have stolen your credit card info from a gas pump or other service where you have used your card(they can use a reader card after you at the gas pump and copy your card #). They are looking for your zip and last 4 digits of the ss# so they make authorized transactions. Report this immediately to https://www.donotcall.gov/ and call your bank to give them the heads up that your card info may have been taken. I had my card info and charges made on card after this happened. My bank immediately caught the odd transactions from NY (a $5 charge and then a $65 ) I had a call from the bank and immediately after a call from this # which is not bank associated repeatedly.
